Joe Gemsa (1920 - 1995)

Gemsa was a sprint driver in the 1940s and 1950s and a master machinist who specialized in four-bangers. He designed, built, rebuilt, and restored overhead valve and overhead cam units for Model T and A-B Fords. He is credited with restoring the John Gerber engine that was virtually destroyed during a 1951 race at the Oakland Stadium in California.
Still have his original pattern for the Gemsa side plate.
I like the stretched (Ford) Thames 400E. I remember seeing one like this when I was a kid. It must have been a slug - they only had a 1703cc engine.
I would love to see more info on this hauler. That was not hacked together in an evening!

Here is the explanation:
"Clearly inspired by the Renntransporter, California racer Norman Holtkamp built his Cheetah ramp truck on a Benz chassis but with a small-block Chevy V8 for power. Troutman and Barnes fabricated the aluminum body, though the ’59-’60 El Camino greenhouse gives the hauler a strong GM flavor. Fortunately, the single example built is still around today."
I had a customised 400E back in the '70s,during my Vanning phase, it had a Ford Zephyr 4 (still 1703cc) ,with twin choke Weber carb and skimmed head. It still wasn't very fast. Sold it and bought my first American vehicle, a '64 Econoline .
By the way Mart,my brother bought your NZ built 1946 Ford coupe.
As it sits today, awaiting its turn for restoration...
