  9. Post # 91907,
I see they are using alcohol, looks like early-mid 50's. Wasn't the carnage in the 64 race caused by gasoline? Methanol is sooo much safer. Just sayin'.....

1947, That's Ted Horns Mazzy. Methanol didn't become mandatory until after 64. M/T used gasoline because it got better mpg meaning less pit stops. 1947-4.JPG

  18. Thanks, Rootie.
Indy kind of lost it's appeal when the engine moved to the back. Born about 60 miles south of Indy, Memorial Day was a big deal at our house.

Rootie, you're right on the Clay Smith photo. I copied and sent it to Cary and Chris Agajanian and they confirmed it. Chris wants to know if the photo is for sale.

  21. I may be alone in this, but this place seems to have stepped up a notch, lately. Thanks to all the new, and old, contributors.-MIKE

Found it on the internet sometime back. If you google up Clay Smith Indy 500 on images its probably still there.

Photo of my older brother and me circa 1951. My father wasn't satisfied with just one hood ornament.

My grandfather made this jonboat trailer using the front axle from an early Ford...Model (T) or (A), I'm not sure. He used this from 1938 to 1969. It handled great at speed. I believe he had welded up the tie rod ends.
