Exactly! My parents came to L.A. In 1929, and I have lived here since my birth in '44. During all that time, I have never heard it referred to as a desirable area or a "Jewish neighborhood."

Welcome to the rust belt! Cars rust out in a couple of years in those states. Plus, chrome was less than great quality in '54 due to the demands of the Korean War.

Those characteristic chalk stencilled nos. were shown during the saturday testing only. Never more.

many thanks Manel: you might know - some of my photos show the D50's grills lower part blanked-off - was that there/then, too?
(and is it true Ascari had had the presence of mind to kill the motor before going in the harbour?)

Reference Post #83602 - Is this Gatlinburg, Tennessee? It looks like it to me. Does anyone know if it is?

I thought that at first but I don't think they had that many cabins and so many close together.Stayed at the Wagon Wheel in 2009 before the current owners acquired it and did it up.It was so bad back in 2009 it was funny.

and the rest. the bank robbery pic was in 1931. everybody thought the Dillinger gang or ma barker was responsible for it. turns out after talking to a few hoods in Alcatraz Menomonie wi was known as the city with the crooked bridges. everyone from Capone to Dillinger and the barker gang knew about it.
