Easily my favorite Thread on the HAMB....Thanks to all you guys who keep it fresh.....
Remember those phony subs for white walls??
We used to see them roadside quite a bit when they first came out back then.-----Don
Dang that is one strong woman. And svelte too, not the Czech weightlifter type you usually see lifting a car.
Looks like it was on its way down as this shot was taken. The prop is still spinning.
MG in the driveway AND Gull Wing in the garage? Nice!
Now That is a cool shot! Thanks for posting.
This looks like Belgium before the blitz... do you have any history of the photo.
One source lists it as Zeppelin over Budapest, Hungary, 1931. It's on the internet, so it must be right, right?
Some from me:
Wing Commander Ken Wallis, well to known to some Uk Rodders who piloted the autogyro in the James Bond movie sadly died recently.
Mini Moke, Chelsea, London, 1960's.
St Louis Arch, 1965.
Fresno, CA, 1966
San Francisco, 1961.
Fresno, Early 60's.
Sunny England, 1960's
It's a Ames Tribune image and a Story county plate on the car (Ames is in Story county) so I am going to guess it is from the Ames area not Cedar Rapids
Wow!! Just got back from my annual Dallas to Seattle and back to Dallas road trip.
Took me all night just to get caught up on this thread alone.
Ya'all can piss and moan all you want to. This thread alone is worth my alliance membership. Don't change it, don't screw with it, don't try to make it better.
No one is making you look at it.
You f-up this thread, and you loose me, and I'll bet a lot of others too.
This photo is at Kachness, they've got a massive road widening project that's been going on for quite some time - this highway moves quite a lot of traffic now.
Back again with more! Look quick, before Photobucket taketh away. This batch is from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York:
And more from Bethlehem Central:
True story: The Frisbee came about from kids tossing around tins from Frisbie's Pies.
And during the war, BCHS students did their part and built a training glider (this was a ground trainer, thus the "Penguin" name):
Finally, BCHS did have an alumna from the class of 1942 who became pretty well-known:
She did go on to Bowling Green, but somehow that teaching gig didn't pan out. Wonder when was the last time someone called her "Bubbles"?
They've got the landing gear tethered.
Was that a standard procedure? Looks like there would be too much run out. Obviously it didn't work in this case. Somebody screwed up big time, that's for sure. Surely we have some V-1 vets on here that could explain.
Glad the teaching didn't work out, having watched her in On the Waterfront and North by Northwest!
"Bubbles" on the set of Exodus in Israel, 1960, shot by Gjon Mili for Life mag...
