Suppose this one will fire more than sixty without jamming?

Yes that was really a real looking toy gun!My friend had one and it was really cool! Not really surprising given that Armalite a division of Mattel, made the stocks!Colt made the hardware. If this info is incorrect please let us know!

Mart, wholehearted thanks for that last motorcycle shot you posted. Unreal capture of a late '20s Indian hillclimber with Crocker heads. Absolutely floored me seeing this. Thanks again.

Edit: After enlarging and studying further, it isn't an Indian. Rather 1 of 24 Super X OHV 45 factory conversions. Equally impressive.

i showed the recovery truck on the bridge to a friend and he sent me the following info .....

Love the hi vis raincoat and trilby !!

Not sure of the vehicle chassis make but the lifting kit was manufactured by Earnest R Holmes
In Chattanooga, it is a lightweight twin boom Derrick type crane locked together for stable lifting over the rear tail gate. The unit was powered by a mechanical power take off from the side or rear off the gear box directly to a chain which drove the sprocket on the crane gear box.
It was controlled by direct drive operating rods situated close to where the guy is standing .
I would imagine this unit was either a Holmes 220 or 330 model those numbers related to its capacity (2 or 3 tons)

This in it day was breaking ground engineering, up until then tow trucks basically had a boom which went up and down mechanically, Holmes stepped right outside the box and came up this radical rethink.

The gearbox that powered the two independent winches was clever enough to be able to operate one winch in whilst the other winch was paying out.

The twin boom locked over the back could be split by simply pulling a pin the booms could then then be swung out over the side to facilitate recovery up an embankment, to prevent the truck toppling over the other boom would be anchored to something like a tree or another truck.

This unit also saw the innovation of an A frame lifting hitch which when used with the twin boom winches allowed a much greater control when lifting...

Contemplated overnight (intentionally) putting a modern shot in thread. I contribute enough that you guys can let one slide, right? :p

Compare above engine with this, 1 of 2 such machines at Wheels Through Time Museum.
