That pretty much sums up my opinion of ALL of the Finned Wonders from '58 to '61, no matter who built them. How Ford and GM went from the amazing cars of '55,'56 and '57 to the abortions that followed causes me to wonder about the water supply in Detroit...

My guess would be 1946 or earlier. Wasn't the red bar added to the insignia in 1947?

YA! As a young boy it was like Nirvana with all the bikes, the trikes, the wagons, and all the cool stuff a guy would need as he grew up and got into cars!

Western Auto and the northern version 'Canadian Tire'. Bicycle parts and car and farm stuff.

  27. The pic below is from my childhood hometown Milford Michigan, taken in the 1959-60 timeframe. You can see the Western Auto sign above the store where I and some other kids spent many a day - and dollar - buying bike parts and checking out all the great stuff like toys and fishing tackle. The store was operated by one of our classmate's dad thru most of the 50s and 60s. If memory serves, some of the store brands were Western Flyer and Revelation. Just 3 stores up from the Western Auto was the D&C 5 and Dime Store. Heaven for kids with 10 cents for a quarter!

  30. Totally classy lady, always. For us who were kids in the 50s, we 'grew up' with Annette via the MMC. Gone too soon for sure!
