No apologies needed on that subject and thanks for the info, but myself, when I hear "Farmall" I think big red wheel tractor.

Now the origin of the nick name "corn binder" for IH would also be interesting...
Well more interesting and OT than multiple photos of a chimp with a woody (am I the only one that didn't see it before it was pointed out?).

The habit of referring to IH trucks as "Binders" or "Corn Binders" stems from the fact that financial success of Cyrus McCormick's improvements to the binder was the basis from which International Harvester was built. IIRC, he did not "invent" the binder, but improved it to the point where it was a practical addition to farm technology of the time.

Side note: The original Farmalls were dark grey with red trim. The change to the classic Red Farmall we all know and love came in late 1936 for the 1937 models. Just like antique cars, the antique tractor community is populated with an embarrassment of "correct police" who will cheerfully spend hours arguing about the exact hue of the original gray or the correct shade of red, and which model was converted at which serial number, etc. ad nauseum...

Hud, that's just too much. We probably stood in the chow line together at some point. Those were the days... Gary

  7. I loved going to Crawfords Mkt. as a kid in the early 50's. They had a small amusement park with a small gauge train for the kids. Great way to get the parents to shop there. They were located at 6 points in El Monte.:D

Why not? The Beetle is pre Oct. 52. I can't tell about the bus, only that it's pre '58.
