We discovered another neat photo of the Frayer-Miller in The Peter Helck photo archives, and you can learn more about all three of the 909 c.i. air-cooled racers that were built for the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup race on The Old Motor.

In regard to the Super Constellation - rode one all the way to Japan (stops in Honolulu and Midway) in 1957, and back to San Francisco in 1960. Comfortable ride, but those nine hour hops seemed awfully long. But not as long as nighttime recon missions over the Sea of Japan.

Isn't that a young Charlton Heston with the lunch bucket on the left? Headed for his Science and Human evolution class in school? LOL Gary

  4. This is Main St. in Clarksville looking east, this row of buildings are long gone but the two story buildings, across the street, are still there. Sue remembers the King's grandson from grade school (late 50's/early 60's), he would talk about his grandparents owning a cafe in town.

Notice the license plate numbers. I can see they both have National Park lettering on the back. Wonder if the belonged to the hotel or actually to the park(which I doubt)

RE Post 69969: I'd be willing to bet that the cars belonged to the hotel. It was a common practice for some of the hotels in Gatlinburg to provide motorized tours of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I've seen photos of a triple-axle Packard from the 1930s with the logo of a Gatlinburg motel on the door. After a closer look, I believe I can see some sort of logo on the door of the Ford, as well as on the trunks of both cars.

There is one in either Athens or Sweetwater Tn. Guy that sandblasts cars, it was parked out by his blast building.

Sesquicentennial parade entry for Jefferson City, Missouri 1971. The 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had returned Bonnie & Clyde to popular culture.

  29. That's the one! When the Thunderbirds flew them and snuck up behind you at an air show the god-awful noise and black smoke would scare the shit outa you. Women would scream babies would scream almost as bad as the VC did in Viet Nam when they heard them(usually too late). Looked just like shark fixing to bite ya in two. My favs!
