Hey, Maggie! DIG the vintage CAMPING scenes, gal! :)

Eddie, keen '48 pic from Cali. Maybe ONLY in California would you have
service straight to cars. I've never, ever seen a pic of this before.
Maybe it was a trial, or maybe only a gimmick at one drive-in theater???
Seems to have the earmarks of a set-up news shot, perhaps to promo a
theater's current draw gimmick? Maybe I'm just too young. Anybody else
remember this practice where they were back then? Thanks again, Eddie!
(BTW, is that Joel McCrea on the screen?)

I'm not too young to forget prices like THIS, though!;) Comparable to what
we had at our local Chakeres theater in our little home town of Logan, Ohio,
as late as the early 1960s! COMPARE with what it costs to go to your multi-
plex today! You can easily drop a C-note on tickets and the snack bar!

Speaking of low prices and early-'60s nostaligia! Here is
Chakeres' REGENCY Theater, Springfield, Ohio, during
the heavily promoted revival of Selznick's "Gone With
the Wind.":D Reminds me of the Chakeres Logan at the
very SAME time, though I don't have a photo of that. It
was built in 1926 and, thus, was right there at the end
of the Silent Era and the birth of Sound! Many of these
theaters from that Golden Age of Movie Palaces were
built to accommodate live performances, as well as mo-
tion pictures. What memorable movies viewed at our
local theater! Big THANKS to Bill Bradzo (OnaSill of
the FlickR community) for posting the vintage shot of
Springfield's REGENCY!

There were only 3 of these trains built. This is one of the two that was on the Santa Fe and Union Pacific 1956 and 1957. They were sold to the Rock Island, retired in 1966 and donated to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay and The Museum of Transportation in St. Louis.

The 3rd set was used only in commuter service on the Rock Island and scrapped out.
