The beginning of the end of the service...
Maggie, thanks for the San Juan Islands pix. I've been going to to Orcas Isl. since 1947.
I spent many summers of my youth in the San Juans, my family has had property on
Orcas Isl. since 1901. My sister is a full timer near East Sound and I've still have 2 acres
near North Beach that was my great grand ma's home in the 20's,30's & 40's. I have a
life time of good memories from that area.
Sorry for the double post.
Jack - you can just go back and delete the second one.
Here's one with local (to me) interest. Land Rovers are made here in Solihull. I'll scout around for some more old ones.
Experimental tractor - never got past the prototype stage - I never knew about this one.
And one last one featuring Winston Churchill.
I'll make that the last as they're not very hot-roddy.
Yeah, and you notice the Kaiser/Frazer multi-purpose there???
No sarcasm meant at all by my post.
This same bridge is still there, isn't it Maggie? Sure looks the same....
This looks like the motel used in the movie Officer and a Gigolo with Richard Gere
My MG when it was born in 1962.
Family photos...sorry if any are repeats....I am the one with the fat head on my sister's lap and with the engine hoist/engine. My Dad in uniform with his mom. My wife's Dad on the hood. Mt great uncles with their Essex cars about 1922. My brother standing next to the Ford in the driveway.
The motel they used was in Port Townsend, WA - it is still there.
We love the San Juans, I learned how to walk on Orcas. My grandparents honeymooned there, then rented a house on Lake Washington for $15 a month.
I'm pretty sure, they built the second span alongside of it (not sure when). There is a huge debate going on about replacing it (and I'm sure who's going to pay for it).
