  7. If you did, that's good, better than having been a complete waste, like our government wanted. Imagine, ordering everything including the drawings destroyed, for what was the most advanced fighter of it's time!

Now I can see where east coast funny car racer Al Graeber got the idea for his series of Tickle Me Pink Chrager funnycars.

Looking for a racing site in black and white from before 2012 movies showing clips of open wheel racing 1910-1930 it was a link maybe from this thread or a vintage thread. The old motor site did not show any movies in their movies section. Thoughts?

  21. Thanks Farmer for posting the pictures of your Grand parents. I couldn't let the pictures go by without commenting on one of them.
This picture may have been taken in 1952 just after your grandpa arrived home from the Korean War. The uniform tells it all. The shoulder patch is his unit. The First Cavalry Division, they fought in Korea from the Summer of 1950 till January of 1952. loosing 3811 killed in action and 12,086 wounded in action. This picture may have been taken the day he arrived home from Korea. It could be that he was sent over seas and into combat as soon as his Basic and advanced individual training was completed. When it was time for him to come home he may have just put on his original dress uniform without the new stripes and ribbons. But one thing jumps out and that's his CIB, "Combat Infantryman's Badge". The CIB is only given to men in a US Army Infantry unit and in later years the US Army Special Forces that have been in combat for 30 day's or more. They don't just give the CIB away to anyone. Only combat infantry veterans are allowed to have them on a uniform. Your grandpa was one tough guy and I hope he lived a good life, because he sure spent his time in hell. He must have done something right because you took the time to share the pictures with the rest of us showing your respect for your family.
I've had a soft spot in my hart for the First Cavalry Division for over forty five years. It was Christmas eve 1966 and myself and some others from my group. The 5th Group First Special Forces (Airborne)RVN., we were somewhere that we claimed we weren't and we had been hit pretty hard with casualty's, and had to be extracted. The call went out and no Hatchet Force was available and no one was coming to get us. The sun was going down and the enemy was closing in. Out of no where came a First Cavalry Division "Dust off" helicopter. They got us out where no one else could. As it turned out we made it out allowing some of us to go on to many other such missions. This one mission always sticks out in my mind, because if it wasn't for the First Cav I wouldn't be around to write this.
Today I still ware my CIB. on my collar, it's a miniature one when I attend some car events. Almost at every show an old vet like myself will walk up and have his displayed usually on his collar. Many times we never say a word just shake hands or just nod. No words have to be spoken because we know what it's all about.
    Thanks again Farmer for posting.

When Canada started on that America was still scratching heads and saying, "Wait! No propellers, you sure this 'jet' thing's gonna work??"
Sad day when that was scrapped, but every supersonic Military aircraft for many years would not have been if it were not for the CF-105.

I bought the book!! Sadly there were only 500 books made and you had to be part of the project to get one. Happily (for me) the first owner and ex AVRO Canada aircraft designer lived next to us when I was young, he gave me the book and three brass cast aircraft models, yes one was a CF-105, the other two were a Spitfire and a Hurricane.
