  1. When I worked at Deere, and we still got train cars to unload, we closed and locked the cars after they were empty. We sent them back loaded with returns to the factory locked and sealed.
You couldn't get into a car to ride if you wanted to.

Lurker Micker flipped the image back properly back on Post 46,667 on May 16. The Chrysler "C" appears forward, as in the alphabet. Rock was actually leaning on the New Yorker's passenger side. 31Dodger also noted that only a bit over 4,000 of the 4-door hardtops were made that year.

This photo was taken shortly after Tucker #1027 rolled over during testing at Indy in October of 1948. The car was driven off the track. Unfortunately the car was parted out but almost every part is accounted for today. Much of it is in use on other Tuckers. Even the doors still exist.

I'd hate to be there when the cockeyed jack gave way to vibration or a nudge, the T dropped, and sparks flew!

  19. ... & it ripped the pump from its mountings, scattering gas and shrapnel in all directions... I suspect the guy behind the pump is more 'sheltering' than 'camera shy' :O

TuckerFan, you'e always Johnny-on-the-Spot RE posts like this. The Tucker site may have bitten the dust due to (apparent) infighting:(, but you have a FAN club right here on the HAMB!:D

I'm wondeirng if this is one of the two or three Tuckers referred to by a gas jockey who personally filled their tanks on their way to Indy? The fella told the story over on my 'Extinct' thread, if anybody cares about that first-hand account. -- Jimi

The poor little woman there also had a name, Minnie Woolsley. I tried to cover "side-show freaks" respectfully a few months back, but some folk on this thread apparently didn't like reality and said they'd seen enough of that. Heck, I thought we were covering the good, the bad and the uncomfortable of history.

My Dad and I, and my brother and I (I'm the taller one which didn't last long) with our 53 Oldsmobile. The first photo is in Wichita, and the 2nd in rural Waukomis, Oklahoma.
