Vivian Vance was older than that crybaby Lucy. Vivian was born in 1909 and that whiner Lucy was born in 1911. You are right that Vivian resented her role but yet she continued on in "The Lucy Show" so who knows how she really felt. True she couldn't stand William. Maybe he was always trying to feel her up.

It is said that the accident was attributable to the fact that the car was fitted with fuel tanks with a capacity of 110 gallons, the thought being that the race could be completed on just two pit stops. Jack was only allowed to practice and qualify the car with a very light fuel load, and never had the car on the track with its full fuel load. As such he had no idea how the car would (not) handle and (not) brake with full tanks.

Aparently he was warned off the car by Jim Clark and Graham Hill, who had driven it in early trials along with and Maston Gregory who had wrecked it in trials before it was repaired for the 64 Indy race.

I'm glad there are so many Studebaker aficionados on the HAMB.
I could look at pix and read about Stude's many, MANY keen
models all day long! Like the Graham brothers, Stude leadership
always had the courage to dare and be different! Stylewise, that
far predates the Loewey association. And yes, mechanically they
owned many firsts, at least in terms of the mass market.
Besides the cool Hill Holder feature, their "TwinTrack" limited-slip
differential predated the GM Posi by years, and Borg-Warner's
four-speed was offered on '59s as a factory option. But for all of
Stude's positives, the company NEVER managed capital well,
increasingly compounding problems in the battle to remain com-
petitive as the Big Three purposely issued models that were bar-
    gain-basement priced in the mid-'50s.

Cutline on this Hawk pic from JeansDenim said '56 Studebaker
Golden Hawk, but I think the supercharger by Robt. Paxton Mc-
Culloch makes it more like a '58. Also, I think the valve covers
on the '56 said Packard, due to the 352 with dual fours (a one-year
affair and, I think, the only time a Stude sported a big-block V8).
Anyway, always FUN to look under hoods, eh?:)

"Real Lurid." Sounds like something Tom McCahill would say to describe a car's performance.:D Yes jimi I agree, the view under the hood of the Studebaker Hawk in post 34643 is quite fetching.

  23. How come there are no safety cones around that ladder , and look!! that guy isn't wearing a safety harness, gloves or helmet

Automaclism, you can say THAT again! :D I couldn't make out whom they were quoting, but I don't think even Uncle Tom would call a fast car LURID. Lurid? WTF?
