A 1957 Super taken in the entrance reception foyer at the GM design studio building ... to be precise.
... A couple of years ago I was at a local scrap metal yard for some welding scrap run by a couple young nephews of the then recently retired owner. The nephews are at the age where they pretty much apparently have everything figured out and as such are kinda cocky. That day I came across 4 original 15 inch moons while digging around the aluminum scrape pile as they were set off to the side out of the way with some other larger pieces. Overall good condition with the small Moon log on the backside and are of the type with the record-like finely embossed circumferential grooved pattern on the face. When I brought them to their office pay shed I said nothing and they just weighed them as scrap aluminum and I paid about $ 3 bucks a piece for the set - they had no idea what they were. Now I have to figure how to mount them by using some spring clips and some arts n crafts time .... any suggestions ? I note in the photo they are attaching these at 3 spots at 12, 4 & 8 and have plugged the mounting clip holes as well. Pretty neat.
I have seen them mounted with Dzus buttons, the brackets for the receiver springs are welded to the rim. You may be looking at Dzus buttons in that photo.
