From my past. My first car (OT). was a 1961 Renault Dauphine! UGH! Bought in 1966. Pop said I was putting WAY too many miles on his 1962 Catalina! Learned how to shift and drive fast on very twisty back roads. Hard to Hot Rod 30 HP! But I was able to find some biggs rear tires! (not easy they were metric!)Got more top end! Broke 75MPH! WOW!
I was waiting for someone to say something about this photo, a vintage LAFD Ladder Truck. It carries long ladders, but it does not have an aerial ladder on it, just long roof ladders. Because it had a long wheelbase, it did have a tiller driver on the back, the rear wheels were steerable like on "Hook and Ladder" (tractor/trailer) rig today. Other than the ladders hanging on the sides of the truck, the rest of the ladders are stacked flat, and removed by pulling the ladders off the rear of the truck. But to be able to do that, the tiller driver needed to lift the steering shaft up high enough to get it out of the way of the ladders, and then lock it in place. Note the steering shaft and the steering wheel locked in place, high up in the air, on the rear of the truck.
Devils Slide up Weber canyon, in Morgan county, Utah. Two parallel rock formations coming down the mountain. Supposedly where the Devil slid down when he was expelled from heaven. Mick
I think that the best years for Chrysler Corp. have been over for many, many years, perhaps the downturn began in the late 1960's...
anybody have any ideas on what may have distracted this driver and caused him to run up over the curb??
