All the pics of old diners made me hungry! There is nothing tastier than the food from a "greasey spoon"! It also reminded me of an unreal experience in about 1963. As a young teenager I was working as carpenter helper for my Father. For lunch we went to an old ferry boat beached in Sausalito Ca. There were planks from the mud to the deck. Sally Stamford, a very rotund woman in a moo-moo was converting the ferry boat into a restaurant. As I watched 2 guys were struggling to move in a counter. She swore at them and would have done a sailor proud. She pushed them out of the way and lifted the counter up and carried it by herself. There were geese running loose on the upper deck and cats laying on top of the restaurant tables. I watched her "seat" some guys by swatting a cat off the table. This was Sally Stamford, ex Madam from San Francisco just across the bay. She lost the ferry boat restaurant to IRS, but went on to be councilwoman and then mayor of Sausalito. Quite a story if u have time to look it up on the web. 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
Rootie, I'm not recognizing the driver on the first shot. Could it be Saylor? And the second photo looks like a young Dick Rathman at Darlington for the NASCAR Speedway Division race. I could be wrong but this looks more like a stretched big car than an ex-Indianapolis car. Thanks, Rootie!
I don't have any info on the #3 car but I don't believe that's Saylor though the car could be a Dreyer. Yes, I believe that is Rathmann in the Ike Kiser GMC powered NASCAR car. It was formerly the Bud Sherk Offy sprint car.
Dang it, I need a ton of parts from that 1957 Pontiac wagon ! 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
