Lebanon Valley 1963. I "believe" that was the year it opened and the track looks brand spanking new. And the still unidentified guy responsible for these photos has painted the 37.

The first photo shows Bobby Unser down low at Ascot; probably around 1962. BTW, the distinctive Cromwell style helmet that he is wearing is believed by some to have originally belonged to his late brother Jerry. I don't know if that's true or not.

And I can't identify the car in the second shot but this is at one of the NASCAR Speedway Division races at Darlington.

    Thanks, Rootie!

The car on the outside of Unser is Allen Heath.

Not sure but that may be Herb Swann's Olds powered NASCAR rig at Darlington. When they stuffed the big V-8s in the cars designed around methanol fueled 4-bangers, cooling issues weren't unusual and you can see their attempted fix.

  12. Hey Swi66 thanks for the great pics. That Squadron Headquarters parking lot reminds me of how cars used to look. The "flyboys" with the 56 Chevy Bel Air convertible and 57 Ford Fairlane convertible sure had good taste in cars. Not sure what happened with the Fiat, maybe a civilian clerk. Lol

1 more car I promise, Rex Winter

Rootie, the body on this car looks quite a bit like the Clemons engined Jack Dixon car at Indianapolis in 1947/48. George Metzler was the driver and missed the show.

Have you guys been to the Unser museum? They were always very competitive and the museum is a great tribute to the family.

Did you actually look at the picture, sport? It is a '55 with left rear tire flat. Your photo is a '56, not subject to question
