Mike Magill in the Walther car. Is this at Trenton; maybe in '57 or '58? Trenton alone required roll bars at tracks on state property and the New Jersey State Police were in charge of enforcement. But there didn't seem to be any rules when it came to materials and the rather flimsy looking roll bar in the photo could be one that was added so that the car could run at the state fairgrounds. USAC didn't finally make roll bars mandatory until the 1959 season.

That is Trenton 1957 Indyrjc. The roll bar rule was pretty vague. But the State Cops could demand a test of the bar. (usually pushing the car by the roll bar.)
