Vern Slankard was the owner-driver of the number 26 Track roadster that took part in the June 28, 1948, California Hot Rods, Inc. races held at Gilmore Stadium. A flathead V8 powered the ’27 Ford bodied ride. Vern went out and cut a 15.65-second qualifying lap and made it into Event number 5, the Fourth Inverted Start eight-lap qualifying heat race of the night. He must have done something right and made it into Event Number 7, the Inverted Start 30 lap Main Event that featured 12 cars. All we know is Vern finished outside the top three in the Main.[IMG]

GMC built 14 “Futurliners” for GM’s Parade of Progress. The Parade toured America in the 1950s bringing GM’s latest vehicles, examples of new technologies and other displays to towns and cities across the country. Huge crowds turned out to see the Parade.[IMG]

In 1958 Chevrolet built this exhibit truck to showcase engine and suspension features of the Task Force trucks. The Task Force Series ran from 1955 through 1959.[IMG]

Photo of the assembly line at Cadillac’s Clark Street Plant, an excellent job of capturing the amazing size of Cadillac’s home plant.[IMG]

Found a set of crazy dinners and buildings in LA around 1926-50's. Most are gone but some still around.

Many years before the "X-Mas Tree" became the defacto starting system, Lions Drag Strip had this electronic system in place and in use...

Maybe that one would be slow enough to actually sweep the street. Today’s street sweeper drivers feel the need… the need for speed and creating dust clouds by using no water…

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even notice that when I posted the picture. I guess I'm so used to seeing these so much I took it for granted. 301.jpg
