Here's something you don't see every day. The Airship "Los Angeles" on the "USS Saratoga". Moving a house in San Francisco. Chopped and Channeled, from the factory. New York City and the Flatiron building. Henry, sitting in his first car. Well, that's one way you could do it. Jean Harlow, and the wind in her hair. An electric bus. Where else but in San Francisco? I have a feeling that they don't tilt back like they do today. Before Yosemite became an almost "theme park", you could just go there and camp out. Berlin, 1945. The biggest difference between electric cars back in the day and electric cars today, is that back then, you had to crank the charger by hand. A tractor with a side car. What? 1953, the very first Corvette rolls of the assembly line.
One of the things you never want to do is to give the "bird" to a motorcycle cop. 1928 Buicks. Taxi. Paris, France I think. La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles. Rita Hayworth, 1950's. I told her, "Ya gotta wear shoes when you ride a bike.", she didn't listen. These painters were all ex-policemen. They left the department because they decided that police work was too dangerous. This is the Eiffel Tower while under construction. Marshal Wyatt Earp. He left Dodge City, Kansas to go to Tombstone, Arizona. He was accused of Murder after the famed gunfight at the OK Corral (1881, which lasted a total of 30 seconds), and left AZ and headed to Los Angeles. He spent a lot of time in L.A., and also in San Diego with periodic trips to San Francisco, and panned for gold in Alaska. He passed away in L.A. in 1929, ten years before I was born. Over his entire life, he was never hit with a bullet. Jimmy gets a speeding ticket from the CHP, on September 30, 1955. Within 45 minutes from the time of this photo, Jimmy would be dead. A Ford, driven by Donald Turnipseed, made a left turn in front of him, which is what caused the accident. If this had happened today, Turnipseed would have been charged with vehicular manslaughter in California. As it was, he didn't even get a traffic ticket.
George What a great collection of pictures. I think I could a comment on each one but my favorite would be Rita. She really was a beauty.
RE: Rita pic post #35083 George be careful. The higher authority busted me for posting things like this. Just say'n.
View attachment 5044464 The biggest difference between electric cars back in the day and electric cars today, is that back then, you had to crank the charger by hand. Those crank handles are adjusting controls for the charger. An early electric could charge overnight for the most part.
Let’s see, that’s one count of failure to yield, one count of hit and run, one count of fleeing the scene and one count of speeding. Have a nice day. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
