Vintage NHRA wall clock (trophy?)

So, I found this clock for sale at a local speed parts shop. It really caught my eye and after a couple months of telling myself that I dont need it, I just bought it. I was curious if any one has one, or knows someone who does? I couldn't find any thing out in my searches. At first I thought it was just a novelty wall clock, but upon closer inspection, I see four tiny holes in the bottom piece of wood as if there is a plaque missing. Maybe it was a trophy? IDK? Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks
