Wow, you guys have some bitchin kits!

I have a bunch of my Dad's when he was a kid... that 3 in 1 '36 kit (3 of them... go figure. ;) ) and that vicky, plus a bunch more. I had a '34 that he built stock, and I blew it apart and tried to make it like the Eliminator coupe. hahaha, that sucks now.

I might do another small run of those shirts this spring.

lol the green hornet one just seems so funny to me for some reason with that whole family. Makes it seem like they got that car already done and they are just assembling it like legos.

Hi neighbor! The actual car the Green Hornet was based on was called "Cream de Mint" the cover car on the October 1959 HOT ROD Magazine. Where it that car today?:D

Thanks Hat Man, Of all the kits out there that '32 Coupe is one I want to find. I can remember my Dad building it for me, so that must have been in the late 1950's. Still kicking myself for selling it in a box lot cleanout back when I was downsizing things.

    Here is a few.
The pile is mostly from the late '50s and '60s kits.

The little roadster is a 1/32 scale kit from Garland and Garland.
Its been awhile, but I believe it was a late '40s/early '50s issue.
Anyone have the box art? I lost it years ago.

I was told many years ago that the mold for the 28 sedan was heavily damaged sometime in the 60's and was never repaired. I have been fortunate enought to find 2 built versions at swap meets in the past 30 years. It uses the same basic kit as the AMT roadster. So if you ever find just the body, you can adapt it to a roadster platform. I have never seen what the box looked like until now.

Great stuff, those are some really old and rare samples of box art. This one is not that old, I'm guessing I must have bought it off the shelf in the early 70's.

As far as the box art goes, I thought they would have done a more psychedelicized background than the one on there.

    Great posts.....
Box art can be a powerful memory trigger...
The smell of REAL model cement, the rush of styrene from a newly-opened kit bag, the additional high from also scoring a car mag, favorite comic, girly book, etc etc.....
The days of the neighborhood 5&10 stores are something that will never be back....rows and rows of kits.....

  22. Dat's coz dey be built and onna street allready, with all the other classy/cool models. ;)

Yup, just another day like all the rest. :D :D :D

  23. A good reason if ever there was one, for NEVER getting rid of old stuff. And we should also consider that if by rescuing the discarded 'stuff' of others it may one day save them from having to inflict such pain on themselves, then it's a good idea to collect their discarded stuff too. My story and I'm stickin with it. ;)

I've had this Aurora display model for a long time and I never knew what it was exactly. It came in this celluloid case. Anyone know anything about it?

Hello Souped, welcome to the HAMB! That is one of a series of INDY 500 Winners that Aurora produced in 1958.

Damn, a LOT of memories in this post.
That Green Hornet was one of my favorites. Loved the disks. And I forgot about the HAWK rubber band kits. I had a bunch of rubber band bonneville cars and dragsters. Always had all the extra parts from kits stuffed into a few boxes under the bed. Seldom did a kit get built with the tires, mags or engines that came in the kit.
No pics of the visible V-8? How many actually got that thing to work for more than a couple minutes?

I forgot about some of the cards that used to come in the models too.

Hatman, do you have the Aurora double T kit with the maroon T also I think it had gold&chrome plated parts? I had both growing up. The 32 coupe was about1/20 wasn't it? My brother had the motorized version. Lets see more!
