History Vintage Hot Rod Shows....picture thread.

That is a nice photo of the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Where did you get it from the internet? The show was an R.G. Canning show production. He was a big name promoter in So Cal back then. There were a lot of cool hot rods and customs among the other vehicles. The shot below is the previous shot on the left side of the auditorium.

I had taken several photos in succession from left to right to make a possible super-wide angle photo series. The one on the right looks like the missing color slide from the series.

I was on the second floor landing that goes all around the whole arena. This was taken on a Thursday morning. So, that is why there are very few “looky-loos” on the main floor.

Sadly, the Los Angeles Sports Arena is no more. The show was in the original home in the West Coast for the Los Angeles Lakers back after they left Minneapolis.

My '55 Panhead won a bunch of Canning shows and also my OT Corvette won some also.
Canning shows were in L.A, Ventura, Victorville, Anaheim, and many other places. The bike won "sweepstakes" many times along with "best motorcycle engineering" and the 'vette won "best paint".
The shows were always big productions with lots of cars and bikes and even some race cars. Canning also had the Rose Bowl Swap Meet.

 

Hey SS,

What was the website that the above photo came from for the L.A. Sports Arena Show? The similarities are too great, as the photo taken looked as if it was from the same spot on the upper circular landing area, above the arena floor. It was a great place to take a photo, but I did not have my fast wide angle lens to get the whole arena floor.

My fast 50 MM 1.2 lens on my 35mm Pentax Camera had a good view, but I was going for a super wide panorama shot to include on a show photo project. Perhaps that site has other photos of the same L.A. show.
