OK, I'll play. We have to start with Mallory's "The best coil I ever made", and then one of the first transistor ignitions (from the 60's. I believe this was also made by Mallory, but doesn't have the trademark "M" like others I've seen.
Hell ya guys keep em comming. Looking for info on the echling c1 55. The vintage mallorys are cool... thanks guys....
I just scored a nice Mallory the best coil. neat old ceramic top.... keep them comming guys.. ya carter lets see your stash.....haha
The classic Mallory hot rod coil. Years ago they were proudly displayed on the firewall to show everyone that you were a real hotrodder
Don't know how old but it's cool to me anyway, almost looks like something you would throw at the enemy!
Can this coil be dismantled any further, can you unscrew the Brown bake lite "cap" to replace the coil wire?
I really need to go home and study a coil like that, but I think you are done with needed disassembly. Stripped wire end goes into hole, screwing the piece back in tightens it against coil. Terminal there doesn't look quite right, I hope you don't have a broken part.
Yep it's a broken part alrite, the little brass ferrel that the coil wire goes threw is broke flush. Anyone have an extra?
Ayyiyi. My thought...drill press. Clamp block of wood to table. Drill hole that is a tight fit on knurled knob. Refit it with a brass screw same threads as that, then carefully run a drill into it... I had one missing the wire holderator. Eventually found one in a coffee can of random junk at a fleamarket. Dumb luck is only way. (a less interesting repair...just replace it with a screw, add ring type coil terminator to wire. Many early coils used ring terminals on secondary)
Here is another look at a pair of DSM Mallory coils firing thru a Harmon-Collins ignition. In the 1940s the Echlin "Bear" coils ,with lamp resistor, Mallory and the DSM (Mallory) coils were the most popular for the hot rodders. The "hot' setup was to have a dual coil ignition built by someone like Tom Spaulding, Kenny Harman, Chuck Potvin, Jim Kurten or others. It was considered that the aftermarket coils made by Echlin or Mallory had more "fire' in them. Naturally they were all for 6 volt operation. Don
Those are the post 1939 Echlin units. Echlin and Echlin moved from San Francisco to New Haven, Conn. in 1939. The brass caps with ribs running around have San Fran address on them. Vertical ribbed caps have New Haven. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
San Fran Echlin on my roadster And my spare NOS Mallory The box. Another Mallory And another. Mallory DSM A few more Mallory's Another Mallory that I really like. Crumbliss box And coil Another Crumbliss

Thanks for the advice Bruce it was a big help! Made a little slot for a screw driver so I could install, works great.
Well I did cheat and used my old Logan but only to face off the srew head and drill out center hole. Would have been lost if I would have had to cut threads! Thanks again!
