Can someone provide VIN decoding for the '56 Chrysler New Yorker St Regis ? And where it would be typically located TIA gatz
Serial number or VIN plate is usually attached (by spot welds) to lower section of the left A-pillar, area between door hinges. There are also sequenced number & letter coded stampings on the engine and the right rear frame rail, which originally matched each other, but are different than the serial number/VIN.
56 Chrysler Data Plates can usually be found in front of the radiator either screwed to the core support or screwed into the valance that fills the gap between the body and the radiator support. If you can get a pic of that, I'll help you out. Example:
A little confused here; the BODY NUMBER PLATE (as shown at the lower left of page 3-28 of squirrel's post, and described as being on the cowl under the hood) is not in the same location as the Data Plate that caprockfabshop shows ?
I don't know what that book is talking about, every 1956 Chrysler has it in front of the radiator, even in 1957-58 they were still screwing them to the core support. Only 1959 started seeing them on cowl and even then it depended on whether it was made in LA or Detroit. The VIN on the door frame only shows what year, make and model, and then a serial number, that's why the Data Plate is crucial if you want details beyond that.
