I've got a 40's Ford big truck chassis (like a 1-1/2 or 2 ton) and the VIN off of it. I'm curious what year it is. Is there any sites for this? I searched some and tried a couple, but nothing I found goes back that far.
    Thanks

Post the number. If early Ford, pre-48, I can probably decode, if later surely someone here can.
Need prefix and most of serial...put in a couple of X's near end for your security. There are 3 possible early engine series so prefix stuff is needed. "48 up with serial on a plaet on body are different system,

Cool, I was hoping you would see this.
    The number is (STAR) 5233XXX
I looked all over and this was the only stamping I found.

I think you have a 1940 chassis that was 221 powered. To fully confirm, the whole number should be on bellhousing, should be 18-that. I don't know that much about trucks, but suspect the number may specify truck in the serial, probably 18T-number.

Thanks a lot Bruce! That confirms my hunch. I have no bell housing, just a chassis that rolls. It has a monster 2 speed rear end.
