  1. last wednesday I was working in my chop.
I parked the car on the carlift and lift the car to working height.
I mounted the frontbumper of a 1950 cheyy pickup on my tudor.
I walked to the pillar of the carlift to push the downbutton.

    then it happend...............

    IMG_1068.jpg

one side of my carlift fell to the ground and the car came with it.
luckely I wasn't hurt, but if it happend a few seconds earlyer........
I called some friends ( it was 22:30 ) and they all came to help me.

I cannot upload all pics here (don't know why)
but here is a link to the duch forum where I posted it too.

we completely disassambled the carlift and turned te car over to its wheels.
1:45 the job was done and we took a beer.

the only damage to the car is a dent in the roof, an dent in the panel behind the drivers door and a small dent in the rear fender.

I'm glad I can wish you all a happy new year.

  5. You are one lucky guy. Only seen that once before when the cable failed and the locks were not engaged. The locks were not being used in that instance which almost cost this guy his life. So this begs the question??....what happened to your locks?
Glad you are safe and able to post this.

  6. Gawd Damn
    My Ass just puckered!!!!!!

  7. Operator error or equipment pailure?? ... What brand and model of lift??

Great no one was hurt either on the fall or recovery!

  8. I bought the carlift second hand a few years ago.
    thesecarlifts have a safetynut.
if the first nut breaks the part of the lift fall on the bronze safetynut.
I think I only had the safetynuts to work with when I bought the carlift.

  9. Holy Shit, not a real good reccomendation for the lift........

Wow, this story could have been much worse for sure. Glad you're OK.
I'm not familiar with the "safetynuts" you mention as my lift has the spring loaded safety locks, but I would be interested in a brand name for future reference, even though it appears from your discription that "all" of the recommended safetynuts were not installed. Is your lift only sold in Europe?

Damn!!!!! I would have downloaded as quickly as the car!

  17. I don't know the brand of the lift, the brand name tag is gone.
I think the first owner "forgotten" to tell me that the nuts where not O.K.
I have the lift for several years now.

  18. Id say you are very lucky to have a guardian angle.
    Glad you werent hurt

    Very lucky!
Same thing happened to me and my dad in our shop but with a late model company vehicle on the hoist, one leg pulled right out of the ground on the way down and fell into the truck, hardly any damage to it, just a folded up running board and bashed in the top of the door. Scary shit

Glad you're alright. This would be a good time to "re-engineer" this lift. With a few improvements, you can make it safe,I hope.

Glad you are ok, but I think your 'guardian angle' is getting off easy. A guardian angle on their game wouldn't have let it happen in the first place.

Wow, he forgot to mention he was selling an unsafe lift? Glad you're ok, I use two-post lifts at my job, but they are with spring-loaded locks

  26. I have always prefered a center post style "old school" lift, or a four post drive up. Just what I grew up wth I guess. But I have never trusted a two-post lift either. But not for a side to side drop. I worried about end to end.

Count your blessings that that little boy wasn't under it. You seem to have a good eye for detail engineering. Spend some time making a safety stop for that lift ( and test it) before you do any more on the car. Nice car by the way. John

  30. BOTH! Not only are you lucky but someone was looking down on you that day. Glad youre alright.
