Back in the early 70's we had a ton of valve guide problems. The worst ones we would replace the head. Others we could drill & install a new guide. The rest we would run a tool down the guide to knurl it. I'm looking for that tool now that was made by either KD tools or Lisle tools. Cant seem to find it anywhere. I need the 11/32 size to try & save a Yblock G head I have. I know I used to have one but 30+ yrs later I've seemed to "misplaced" it.
If you have a set of G heads, take them in to a machine shop known for quality work and get them done right.
K Line do a kit 501032 - but you won't like the price. I remember the one you want - I have one in Chevy size - very effective on wear up to 6 thou. I think it was made by KD.
You need a goodson spiral guide knurler, you also have to ream after the knurl.Just go to a shop and get it done the cost won't be too much. The correct way to repair is a bronze liner but set up cost is very high.Bronze liners work great I've done 1000's and they last a long time.http://www.goodson.com/store/templa...IID=1643&SID=6a39a0aa304abf5d6514c6e709fba63d Just my 2¢ Tig.
Any of you "experienced" parts store guys remember selling these? Any advise as to one to try? Thanks for any info.
Any old machine shop should have one of these laying around, they don't get any use so I would make them an offer.
