They make masking tape for powder coat. The guy I use could do it.

Not black, - I masked off sides, and after each coat I very carefully wiped off the tops of the fins and lettering with turps, (mineral turpentine).
    Took a while.
I wish I had taken a before pic, as the covers required substantial work.

  4. I polished the fins and edges of the valve covers, intake manifold etc. then painted them all black. Took lacquer thinner on a cloth and took the paint off the fins.

Here's my before and after. These are the old school cast ones with the straight edelbrock script. Found them in my my buddies barn and he said throw them out while we were cleaning so i through them in my truck.

  10. Ditto x 2; but not 3, my '47 project has Corvette covers, I don't feel that paint works on those. Still trying to figure out a decent looking 10-12" single four air cleaner for the '35; any ideas?

  11. Just picked up a set of old A block Weiand finned covers. Valve covers are ready to picked up at the polishers today. Thanks to you guys, I plan on painting engine color in between the fins and also on the air cleaner. Nice looking set ups!

IMG_5149.JPG Super easy to do yourself. Clean en well. Get some engine enamel. Mask off the outsides and surrounding areas. Shoot it. When still tacky take some mineral spirits and wipe the tops of the fins and logo. Remove tape and done. Done many sets this way and paint has held up perfectly.
