I have a lead on some old Ford parts that I might wanna use for a future project but don't know what a reasonable offer would be for them. First there is a stock '32 front axle in good condition with spindles and complete mechanical brakes. No spring, perches or wishbone included. A set of 4 16 inch Ford wire wheels, need sandblasting and paint. Then there is a 16 inch Kelsey Hayes wire wheel with straight, adjustable spokes. Sandblasted and painted. I believe it would be hard to find 3 more of them but I like to hoard old car parts so what would a reasonable offer be for just one wheel?
Almost impossible to help put a price on something that we can't see, photo's would go a long why to help yu put a value on the items. HRP
Go to our Classified section and find those parts for sale. That's a real good guide line. If the add has been bumped a dozen times the price is to high.
You need to make sure the inner rim bead is not thin, rusted through or pitted. Figuring out if the wheels run true would also be helpful info.
Guess I'll do some more searching and see what I can find. I'll talk to the owner after the holidays and see what he wants for the stuff. I know for sure that he's never going to actually use it due to health issues so I'm hoping on a good and fair deal for both of us.
Thank you. I understand that these are just rough estimates of what the value is but a huge help for a enthusiastic newbie like me.
@alchemy is right on the money, you have found some desirable parts. The early spindles will have a smaller bolt pattern for the later hydraulic brakes but they can easily be adapted. Obviously try and strike a bargain for the best price, and good luck!
He actually had 2 wheels with adjustable spokes that I brought home with me. So, any more information on these is appreciated. They are 16 inch in diameter and about 6 inch wide.
If those have a 5.5" bolt circle they are vintage aftermarket Kelsey Hayes for a 30's Ford. Probably offered by dealers as a stylish upgrade in the mid 30's. I bought one at a swap meet years ago and then was lucky to find three more for sale on the HAMB classifieds.
I think they look pretty cool. I'll test fit them to a Model A drum tomorrow and see if they are Ford aftermarket wheels (which I think they are).
