Y'all heard the story of the hot rod race (an earlier song by that exact name) on that fateful day, when the Ford and the Mercury went out to play. Well, that's story's true, I'm here to say, cuz I was a'drivin' that Model A. It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up, that Model A body makes 'er look like a pup, she's got twelve cylinders and uses 'em all - with an overdrive that just won't stall. I can do more verses if you give a rip - I played in a band in HS in the early 60s and this song was a staple of any R&R/C&W band back then (along with Louie Louie). There may be a few prepositions misplaced in the above rendition, but it's true to the original verbiage. Even sang this song impromptu years later at The Harvester Inn in Kodiak, AK - band needed a piano player for a short stint (theirs was sick). dj
-------------------- I thought "We was outa' San Pedro late one night" - referring to San Pedro which is down at the extreme south end of L.A, near Long Beach - and thus, the "grapevine" would have been the infamous Grapevine Hill at the far north end of L.A. Mart3406 ============================
Here's a link to a post I made on anther thread to the original Charlie Ryan version Mart3406 --------------------------- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6552700&postcount=55 =============================
Charlie Ryan says he used "San Pedro" because "we left Lewiston late one night" just didn't ring right. four barrel carb and dual exhaust with four-eleven gears that'll really get lost, safety tubes and I ain't scared, cuz the brakes are good and the tires are fair. dj
hey guys yes there has been some progress i will upload some pics soon, keep in mind it will be on the road this summer but it is still a work in progress....
Hi all, I know it been a while here's some updated pics. This is how she looked over the summer. since then we have torn her back down. the body work is almost complete. Hope to have her painted by Christmas, Interior shortly after.
That looks perfect, I'm getting ready to start on my 31 this winter, just wondering how much was taken out in the chop? Thanks JJ
I just caught up to this build...but I really like it, and thanks for sharing! It's just different from other a builds. Not just the engine, but the dash, the stance, taillights, etc. Everything is just unique! I'll bet it runs good. Have you thought about making a short video on it? Would love to hear it run! Nice Job -Cody
yes, i've have thought about it. I would rather you guys here it run in person! lol I should have it out to quite a few shows this coming season. Who knows maybe I will post a video but it will be a while before that is possible. The car is torn down for paint, interior, and a quick-change rear end. We hope to have it to the Detroit Autorama completed. Then I do plan to take it to a few shows, at this piont I am not sure which ones I will be going to but I would like to get it around the country a bit.
A hotrod Lincoln? Can't get any more '50s trad than that! Twelve cyl & keeping it in the Ford family is awesomely good. The song made the combo legendary, and the V-12 VISUAL is about as bitchin', in its own way, as a Hemi. Chop & stance are good. The tall grille holds back the overall look, though. While it may cost some add'l bucks, it would be money well spent to SECTION it.
I'm not sure why you think the tall grill thoughs off the look, if you section it it would make the stance look taller, this ain't no 4 wheel drive! lol just kidding I appritiate all comments!
The grille looks exactly RIGHT now--with the hood lines perfectly straight. No more tweaks needed there! Can't wait to see this in paint!
Are you going to put side panels on it? I think it needs it. That or you should have set the motor back it the firewall more. You asked for opinions earlier. I know the cars almost done but it just seems so long in the motor compartment. The work looks top notch and the stance is excellent. It just the first thing that hit me when I looked at the side profile. If you like the look then nevermind.
No side panels in the plans, Now if It had a small block chevy they would be a must!!!! no offence anyone. I do like opinions, I must agree she's a little nosey, that's what you get when you have a 35" long motor. However 32 frames are 2.5" longer in the front than a model A frame, from there we only grew another 3/4". I don't think its much longer than the average model A on 32 rails, the chop make it look a little long as well. I think stock A's look a little stubby don't you?
