I just bought this Singer 188K and don't know much about it. It didn't come with a drive belt .I downloaded a manual for it , but it doesn't say anything about the belt. I ordered a belt ( leather) and installed it, but I'm not sure I got it on right. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks , Bill
Now that I see the sheave, I moved the belt. Now next question. How much tension should be on the belt? To tighten it, do I shim the motor down? Thanx ,Bill
I just bought a Singer 188K and is the belt a one piece? If so, who do you get through the two holes in the table and around the pullies?
The belt should be as tight as you can get it . It is leather and it will stretch. Does the 188k have the double walking foot? If you are going to sew any kind of vinyl you are gonna wish you had it. The belt is made of leather, and is held together at the ends with a heavy metal staple. "for lack of a better term"
I found out with machines for my machine shop that it's law the manufacturer HAS to provide second and later owners with manuals. It's one of the few good things the Gov't did. You could get hurt not knowing how to operate a piece of equipment. Write or call the manuf. co., they can only charge printing price. i was able to get manuals for a piece made in 1950.
