Hot Rods UPDATE FOUND! Minneapolis Dark Red Rose 1932 hiboy sedan.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Roadsir, Aug 15, 2013.

  1. Information keeps coming out of the wood work. Ken Thiele wrote a nice article about the car that was in the latest MSRA linechaser, and Gene Sonnen keeps finding a few pictures of the car.

This one, is super early. Before the chop, hot flathead, and dropped axle.

  2. And this picture from 1968 in a Torquer's display at the ISCA show , Mpls Convention Hall , Fall OF 1968. Here you can see the body color is maroon painted red around the windows, and the fenders might be black. You can see the Buick..., Filled radius rods, Merc Wheels, like in the 70's picture above. That's Praml's 3 window in the foreground...sometimes confused with mine.

    HaHa...I wish....Kinda funny I have a 410SBC with one 4bbl, 322 with 2-2bbl, 401 with 3-2's, and a 392 with 4-2's. I already have 10 carbs, to keep up.

  6. So just to kind of recap.....and to keep my own mind straight I am still trying to fill in the timeline of ownership, that really tie into those photos from lates 60's era.
    Goes something like this:
    Henry Orfield 50's- September/October of 1964
    Steve Hendrickson- Through June 65
Either Dennis ?, Wendall Malin, or Ken Donahough, Glenn Cunningham, Mike Victor
    Bob Heling 68-70?
    Steve Kotch
    Jim Stiller 81-82
    Baily Jansson 82-8X
Bruce Butch Thomson (possibly owned it after Baily) 8X-85
    Vince Strom 85-94
    Ken Thiele 94-00
    Tim Keller 00-02
    Dale Fluegge 02-2016

Such a great story, just read the entire thread. I love the "moms" memory of the car back in the day. It painted such a vivid image in my head. That's priceless history to have with the car. So cool. Happy for you.

  9. T&A Thanks! Kinda cool to capture some of the personal stuff. I have some other accounts to share as well.

Does make it fun.....Though this one really made the rounds and makes it a little more challenging!

    Eric,

I see Mike Victor's name on your list of (possible?) owners. Did you get that name from Steve Hendrickson? If so, you're on the right track. If not, I'd get in touch with Steve and ask him about Mike Victor. Mike was an old friend of Steve's and at one time had a veeeery nice '32 Victoria. (Just covering all of the bases.)

Also, the name Wendall Malin rings a bell with me from way back. It could be because it may have been the guy Steve sold it to,

  11. Denny, Yes, That was a name Steve provided, and where their are some gaps. Gene Sonnen mentioned Bob Heling as the possible owner when the 69/70 pics were taken!..

  12. Had a great trifecta weekend.... started out taking the 32 sedan to back to the fifties. Eric Aurand did a nice write up on the car for the latest issue of Cars and Clubs. I'll share that later.

Made it back to hit the New Ulm Car show Sunday where a local photographer Michael David Olsen caught me coming in.

Wrapped it up by flogging on @Thudson and his brothers cycle carts.

Dirt tires on the rear, Marv Faw would no doubt approve. Great thread.

  16. Wow..... where has the year gone. I’ve been enjoying the 32.

My Uncle worked with Eric Aurand to create a nice piece of art for the 32.

I know this is a very old thread, but my mind just went into gear when I was reviewing this thread and I remembered something. The name "Wendel Malin" has been mentioned several times here, but with no specificity. It now comes back to my memory that "Wendel Malin" had a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville that Steve Hendrickson ended up with for a while (I have some great stories about that car). I have to believe that Malin was an early "flipper" and traded the Bonneville for the '32 and sold it shortly thereafter and probably doesn't remember it. I'l talk to Steve about it the next time I am in contact with him, but "no brag, just fact", I have an exceptional memory and remember things about folks who have forgotten it themselves.

"Steve Hendrickson had some fond and detailed memories of the car, and was really fun to BS with. Steve saw the car advertised in the Minneapolis paper in the Sept./Oct. of 1964. Henry had pulled the flathead and was selling the car less motor and tranny and it was advertised for $450, and it came with a perfect set of fenders. He said that Marv Faw had a custom shop on Lake Street and advertised in Cars and Clubs did the chop and some of the other custom work for Henry Orfield. Marv also worked at Big Wheel Rossi, and helped with their dragster."

Does anyone know if this Marv Faw is the Marvin Faw who worked at International Motors, Los Angeles in 1951. He made the body for the white Jag Spl in my avatar. That Marvin Faw died in Oakland, CA about 30 years ago.

  22. @tubman Thanks for bringing this up. Would be cool to add another owner to the thread. @Terry Buffum I don't know Marc and his story. Perhaps someone else may chime in!
