As a teenager in the 70's, I remember a guy always showed up at the Nats North at the Detroit fairgrounds in a dark blue '29 hiboy. I'm pretty sure it had a caramel colored int., ran polished halibrands, smooth hood sides, and had "Z-29" lettered on the differential cover. I think it was because it ran a 302 Z motor and 4sp. It's a car I always remembered and often wonder if it's still around. It was a quality car, then or now! Anyone know or have pics??

I remember seeing the car, went thru my early Nats North photos, but didn't find it. Don't know who owned it.

I know muscle car discussions are taboo here so I don't want to open that can-o-worms but...........
You can bet the matching number Z/28 people know where it's at, assuming it was a 302 out of an actual vin numbered production car.
Hope you find the car and get the full story.

You are SO wrong.....only HALF were DZ 302s, the other half are Corvette engines.....

Joke if you like but some of these rare engines are really desirable ( translation - Valuable ) to the guys who want to restore the cars they came out of.
The numbers matching thing and all that :D

No real contribution to this thread other than giving it a little nudge.
I have some history with a certain model of car that will remain unnamed due to its status around here.
About 1971 as a junior in high school, my neighbor and h.s. pal bought a 68 ca ca ca ..........Z, we were both just 17 years old.
You know that one right guys, man that 302 (MO) was an absolute terror, just as its reputation has been bantered about since the day they were released.
So Blue is right, those things are considered the pinnacle in their community.

I'll ask my great grandad when I am in Lansing in a few weeks. If anyone would remember things like that, it would be him (assuming his memories haven't been hit too too hard).

I gave him a call, he didn't remember seeing that car at any point. Says it would have been one that stuck with him if he had. He also has some memory issues, so I'll try and take a look through the photo albums on the off chance it shows up in the background of a photo would have taken with one of his rides back in the day.

Found a few clips on this video from the '77 Nats. Shows up at 10:12 and 25:41. Wonder if it's still around?

  23. When I bought my roadster I was told it was a 350 but the guy that owned it before me didn't have a clue,in fact I didn't until my pal Randy did a check on the numbers and found out it was a DZ 302,that car ran like Jack the Bear!

I sold the car a few years later to get my old sedan back. HRP

Looked through one of the albums while I was in Canton. Most were still in Lancing, but the one I did look through didn't have it.
