Maybe not thrilled over the car, but I love the OHV Buick straight eight with the "compound carb" set up with Carter WCDs and the split exhaust.

Practically sure the pickup in post#17 was built by a guy called Kev Elliot when he was editor of Custom Car magazine. Its a 47 Ford front end, F100 pickup bed on a Chevy Caprice chassis. He started building it this side of the pond, when he move to the States he took it with him and finished it off.

My all time favorite "unusual roadster". Radical for the time...but not as bazaar as a lot of those customs that followed. I'd call the Ala Kart just about perfect.

    You are correct.

Loved his tech articles in R&C, printed and saved some.

  25. The chopped up, panel bodied cars in OP lead picture weren't built in a prior to '64 style (cut-off date, right?) and came from modern 'rat rodded.' culture. I'm only pushing 60 but I got alot of pre-'64 magazines for reference.

In 1952, Sterling Gladwin built this luxury roadster, Maverick Sportster on a LaSalle chassis. Its fiberglass bodywork had no hood, just a few access panels for fluids and the like, with anything more serious requiring the entire body open like a funny car's, hinged from the back. Then he upgraded to a Cadillac Eldorado chassis with a proper hood. The underfunded effort only managed to build seven cars before shutting down in 1968. Only two are thought to exist today. Looks like George Barris in gold jacket to me [IMG][IMG]

Not Unusual, This car set the hook for me back in the day, IMO this is the definition of a Hot Rod Roadster.[IMG][IMG][IMG]
