  2. Unrestored cars have an attraction, that most can relate to.. a true step back in time.
Some cars at shows are over done..seeing them in their original form is refreshing.
It also brings back the value and a purpose for some of our old parts, rather then buying the reproduction parts that the popular car owners have available to them.

Just a quickie paint job I shot in my garage. Still has some dents and dings in the rear quarters. Just had to get it on the road this spring.
Now I've got the next six months of winter to work on making it better, but it's never going to be a high dollar finish, it's a hot rod and made for driving. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1444485666.777863.jpg

Camped next to this 32 today at Valley Rod Nationals in Fresno, Ca. On the "drool factor" scale 1-10, rates about 12. Still running original 32 Cal plates. image.jpeg image.jpeg

image.jpg bought the car with this matt black spray can paint. I absolutely detest matt black. Can't stand it! One day I'll fix it. I like the car under the paint and can't see the paint when driving it, and shut the garage door when not using it so I don't have to look at it.
I'll also drop that front end and headlight bar.

Why don't you try using a little rubbing compound on the matt black paint.....with a little effort you should be able to get it to look like an old gloss black paint job. Try it you will be suprised!

Thanks for that.when I first got it I asked a painter friend who said that nothing would help. Not accepting that for an answer I now use a car wash with polish, and that helps. Admittedly the paint is 'gold leaf' thin.

Burn through and enjoy the patina.....
Instead of rubbing compound, try waxing it with some cheap auto wax with cleaners in it.....not collector car wax, just the cheap wax for Joe public.

Here is the Model A coupe that my dad and I built. It will eventually get painted all one color but for now we are having too much fun driving it to pull it apart to paint it. Plus, we are still working on it slowly and each part we work on gets a new shot of primer to protect the metal.

Yeah I have a couple. Both with approximately 60 year old lacquer paint jobs flapping in the wind.

A tudor I wish I still had. It'd give me one to drive and one to work on. It appeared to have been brush painted years ago. It was stupid to have sold it! DSCN0454 - Copy.JPG

Here's Ol' Rusty, my '47 pu daily driver. About half original paint, half red oxide DP74. The name is ironic (get it?) cuz there' 47 front avatar.jpg s no rust at all!
