    I just got a 1950 Chevy 3600 Flatbed for a shop truck.
We pulled it out of a field where it has been sitting for several years.
    It's a 235 straight 6 still running a 6 volt system.
Engine turns by hand and the starter spins with a fresh 6 volt battery.
Problem is it is not engaging the flywheel.
Whats your tricks? I am going to pull it off and clean it. Is there anything I need to do short of rebuilding it to get it to un-stick and engage?

    Thanks,

It should have a foot stomp starter and you engage the starter by pushing down on the button on the floor, check and see if a part of the linkage is missing.

    Sorry, I'll clarify.
The foot starter is all there and working. Press on it and it and the starter just spins.

    Thanks,

It either has a stuck drive or a bad drive that may be the reason they parked the car in the first place.

There is the rare chance that there are a couple of teeth knocked off the flywheel in that spot.

I'd pull the starter off and pull it apart and check it out. A new drive shouldn't be hard to get.

Ill check that tonight. I have a few starters lying around. Are they the same from car to truck internally on the 235 starters?

  6. Napa carries the starter drive for about 8 bucks. Easy to change but you do have to remove the starter.
