Art & Inspiration Ultimate Rock & Roll Car

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bigdaddy, Oct 6, 2008.

  1. I would say a Jeep with a very high center of gravity. To be safe, it should probably have a stout roll bar.

  2. Not that it would be my choice ... but how 'bout McMullan's tub featured in Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" video?

seems we are getting 2 types of answers here... cars from songs and just "rock and roll" cars in general...

Although not really my "cup of tea" either, this coupe is a worthy contender if only for it's association with the song Little Deuce Coupe. That Hot Rod Lincoln has gotta come close, again if only for the song.
However, my vote goes for Cadzilla.

Another vote for the Model A ... it's the car that Smokes a Ford and Mercury that have been racing all through the song in Jimmy Dolan's "Hot Rod Race" c. 1950

Yeah, I know. Still a good song.

  12. 1. Rocket 88 by Jackie Brentson.
    2. Hot Rod by the Collins Kids
    3. Hot Rod Lincoln by Charlie Ryan

There are several thousand rock & roll songs about cars that come far before ANY song by a punk band. Punk rockers don't usually drive hot rods. More like any car that is handed down from the parents.

The ultimate rock n roll car would be a 32 corvette coupe with a 409, probably little & red to appease the rainbow rockers. Midnight blue would be my color of choice.

  15. LMFAO! ... 49ratfink ... I posted this just for you ... 'cuz I know how much you like David Lee Roth and cars with 80's graphics! :D

My "official vote" is gonna hafta be for Charlie Ryan and his "Hot Rod Lincoln" Model A Coupe ...

the silver sapphire is prolly my favorite 60s show rod, and any of the beach boys or jan n dean car songs are my favs. or the rip chords, jeez, there so much in so many genres. brian setzers switchblade 327 is a good one too. on a side note, the sound clip in 409 was actually a 348, owned by a friend.

Yeah, you guys are picking on McMullen's tub, but minus the graphics (which were not horrible for 80's graphics) and the grille insert and I'd lose the GEARHEAD, over the top motor, but I like this car. Sat great, real knock off wheels, great top plus I just bet it has one of those snappy 80's velour interiors!

Tom McMullen always seemed to favor the loud and outrageous, but still, most of it was pretty cool. Remember that 2 engine van? ....or the Econoline pickup? ....or his Short bus?

Plus, it was kind of neat to see that tub smokin' the tires at the end of the video....David Lee who?

Charlie Ryan and his "Hot Rod Lincoln"

    Is someone keeping count

  23. I taught a History of Rock n Roll class two years ago- you are right on the money with Rocket 88 being one of, if not the first.

This song was a true statement of the times- this was one of the first songs to have lighter lyrics (he's singing about driving, cruising, etc- no blues "my life stinks, she left me" lyrics)...

BUT it's a tossup between Rocket 88, Little Deuce Coupe and Hot Rod Lincoln as to which had the greatest effect.

If you are talking a car, this is hard to beat.

If you want old time rock & roll music it's Buick '59 by Vernon Green and the Medallions circa 1954

  25. It's always been a Mercury for me! Obviously!!!

"If I had money, tell you what i'd do...
Go downtown, buy a Mercury or two....
    Crazy 'bout a Mercury...crazy 'bout a Mercury...
Gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road....."

    Does it for me!!!!!!

    Stray Cats, "Built for Speed"
"got a custom engine...and it's black with flames.."

Another one that does it for me!

  26. Man, I could not agree with you more! I don't give a shit who's record cover it was on, it ugly.

  27. Yes but, it's not the fantasy car referred to in the actual lyrics, it's just a cover shot prop where accuracy was not an issue.

"Test Drive", "Red Cobra #9", "Speed Track". I think their backup vehicle was a 65 Rambler.
