Hey The sun is shinging here in the UK - at last LOL - so I have taken advantage and done some work on my Mercury. The show season starts on Good Friday so its good to get everything done by then. I have installed Lakes Pipes and put my original mercury hupcaps back on. I am waiting for some bullet centres to come from USA which will hoepfully be here Monday - should be a long way along the road to the Mild Kustom look I am after. Next, I need to save the cash to get the chrome shaved from front and back. I also have some NOS number plate surrounds to put on as soon as I get a chance. Bad news with the engine though, its a y block and has developed a strange knocking sound, may be a little end or piston slap - seems to come a go in a cycle, now you hear it now you don't! I have great oil pressure and it does not burn oil so I will run it for now and see what happens! comments welcome all the best Jaz
Only one suggestion. Roll the windows down when taking pictures of your car that you are gonna share with the world. Other than that, very, very nice.
Looks great Jaz, after living in CA for seven years I forget just how much efforts it takes to keep a car that cool on the road in the UK. Man we've got it easy over here on every level. Merc looks rad man, hope e engine noise is nothing too serious.......here's to more sunny English days as the season kicks off. F
Very nice! I just made a deal for a '53 Merc hardtop and I really like the way you went with yours. How much did you lower yours front and back and what size tires are you using? I really like the color combo. Well done!
Hey Paul, will definitely be at the Hayride - sending of my money Monday! Do you go to Wheels Day, Aldershot?
Thats good advice, I thought the exact same thing when I uploaded the pictures, they would look so much better sans glass and frame!
I dropped it 3 inches in the rear using lowering blocks. The front is dropped approx 3 inches also using Aerostar springs. Real easy job to do and didn't cost a lot of cash! Don't know if yu have sleeping policemen - speed humps in USA but it clears them well even with the lakes pipes. Tyres are American Classics, 215 75 R15 - Had to put 6mm spacers on the front so they cleared the upper control arm.
That was a golden rule when riding in Dad`s 51 Vic. The windows (all of them) had to be down. Highway driving, they were up, but as soon as we arrived somewhere, The windows had to be down, It seemed like a mad rush to see how fast we could get them down.Somehow, while dad was driving, he could roll the window behind him down a ways, and I would have to reach behind the front seat to finish it.
LOL - I'm the same - whenever I take the mercury out all four windows are down - kids moan at me that they are cold, but I just love pillarless coupes/hard tops
Very sweet Merc! Gorgeous car! Kepp an eye on that knock. Y blocks sometimes have rod knock problems. (though I'm no expert)
Yes, although I hope we get better weather this year than we did last! I got top 10 and very wet last year, ended up drying out and drinking tea at NAMCO. Then of course, after the show was over the Sun came out and we ended up some very dodgy rock 'n' roll record Hop in Farnborough. We made a day of it I suppose Paul
See you there - but remember the Mercury doesn't look nearly as good as the photos in the flesh - LOL
