He's got some interesting stuff. It seems like a turbocharger would be the way to go if you were looking for 400 horsepower because the superchargers only get you up to around 300 at most.

Try a search - been discussed here several times - consensus is it probably wouldn't work well.

Ask Jack Stirneman from St. Louis Mo. if it it works. He made the 200 club at Bonneville in 3 passes. GeminiEFI

Jack used a SBC with an old 'blow thru' turbo setup. The blown flathead street roadster records are under 200 MPH at Bonneville.

Neither does having the valves in the block, but that doesnt stop anyone. :D

I think its a cool idea, but i dont think turbos dont look rignt in cars where the term "hoodsides" applies

I'm just saying it's not efficient due to the flathead exhaust, not that it can't be done. Anything is possible given enough time and money. ;)

  11. Joe Abbin has a book out about blown flatheads - he should be able to help with any questions regarding turbos as well.

Ron Mains Vortec or Procharger flathead got him in the 3 club. (I know, Dan) So if you like those snail shell looking things hanging on your motor maybe thats what you should look at.

Some spy shots that came my way. Keep in mind this flathead went 280 without the turbo. RM watch out.

a friend has one of those tiny french flatheads v860ish? with an svo turbo on it ....runs like a dream....i'll try and talk him into sending me some pics

  16. Why wouldn't it work the compression ratio is right even with cast pistons, all the turbo is doing is improving the fuel charge!!Thats why my straight 8 will have 2 turbos! Rob.

  18. Big difference, alternators are fairly new compared to turbochargers - which predate the Flathead V8.

Flatheads have enough trouble evacuating exhaust as it is. Now you want to put a turbine impeller in the path?

May not be the best candidate motor for a turbo, but it sure looks cool as hell. I will have to keep this in mind.

I've said this before but there is or was a fella from north central kansas that ran a propane/turbo charged flathead in a 40 coupe for many years.

I hang with the car pictured in Rich's post #14.

We qualified at 307 on Ron Main's 302 record but broke a piston. Repaired it in time for return runs, but shut off early. Requalified at 309 but, broke the same piston. Jimmy decided to pull the pin on Speedweek. The car is number one in El Mirage points and must continue in order to win the championship.
