Event Coverage: Starbird Exotic Car Show Tulsa, OK Part 1

    Part 1!
Darryl's grandson Dakota has just finished this 67 Riviera Bubbletop. Very kool ride!

    One of Dakota's previous builds.

Ron Pinkston of Hooligan Hot Rods in Wichita finished up this Merc which qualified for the Fine Nine.

Also qualified for the Fine Nine, with interior by Fast AL's Upholstery!

Here's the Fine Nine winner, the Atomitron by John Saltsman, driven out from CA for the show. I love to see kustoms driven especially when competing for such a prestigious award.

Also driven out from CA was Keith Dean's 40 Mercury
    [IMG]

Another of Shawn Mundy's Fine Nine qualified 35 Ford Pickup.

Nice! Thanks for posting! One thing I miss about not living near Tulsa anymore is that show...

  6. Thanks Travis for sharing with us. Great shots. I missed going this year.
    Later,
    Dick

  7. Thanks! Atomitron says it all as a genuine kustom street freak, musta freaked a few kids out on the drive into the heartland- way to go.

Thanks for taking the photos and then posting them, Travis! Great work, as usual!

I grew up less than two blocks from the Tulsa fairgrounds, and wanted to go to the show but was unable to. Thanks!

Kool pics Travis! The only mistake that I see is you should have photo chop'd the nerd
    out of that first picture.

This iteration certainly looks better than the all-peach (pink...???) colored version at the Kansas City show last year...that car has to be the 'most kustomized' vehicle in the world -meaning it's always in a state of re-do, year 'round.

I'm afraid I'd get tired of re-doing the same car show after show...but that's just me...I have to build something new every few years after using it up...

Thanx for the pics Trav...hope you have more...

    Great photos Travis:
Clarification: It was my understanding Keith Dean's 40 Mercury was driven from California to Tulsa with no top through rain and snow, however the Atomitron was towed on an open trailer following Keith Dean's Mercury. Agreed, it would be quite a site seeing both of them going down the highway.

Who owns the flamed shoebox? I looked that car over for along time and I could swear that it was sectioned a little bit, but it did not say it was on the tech board, anyone know for sure? Jim

I would tire of it to I think. I do have more coming!

Well then I apologize for the error! I heard at the show and then from a friend that it was driven but I did not confirm it with the owner. I feel like a silly goose.

Okay, the skinny as I hear it was that since it was to be left at Starbird's museum it was trailered part way, Keith Dean's Merc was put on the trailer for awhile when it just got far too cold to drive the roadster, that was the section of the trip that the truck was driven. It's still a fantastic truck and congrats on the award!

  20. Thanks Travis, great pics! I'm loving that bubble top! I think it would look great parked out front of the office....after I wiped Mick's drool off it. :)

A Merc that was clean on one side, then he was told to move it meaning he had to clean the other side.

Lol!! Your too funny. If I was big time our club would be called Big Dog Kustoms.

That sucked having to clean both sides, It was funny to see Jerry Titus face when I told
him that I didn't want to move because we had already cleaned the other side. I thought
cleaning one side was the advantage of showing indoors. Ya learn something everyday.
