    I haven't seen your thread in awhile... and your treatment of the A pillars and raising / flaring in the front of the doors is fantastic. Now, you don't have to call me copy cat, but that's a nifty little trick I'd like to duplicate some day. New pix coming soon? Gary

    My deadline to have this rolling with the Hemi in it is June 25th.

    Mark your calendar if you're in Minnesota as I'm hosting a SWAP MEET that weekend too. (there is a car show too that the local club puts on) Its called the "Stewards Swap" - It'll be that Saturday June 25th starting at 7am. The fee for the swap is a donation of non perishable food items for our local food shelf. There will be beer and food vendors along with fireworks after dark. You must bring at least 80 percent car related stuff to sell. BTW we have a A&W drive in!

    I've been slowly plugging away at my frame... On top of college classes and teaching combined with family there is not much time left over... but I feel inspired to check in.

    I'm getting pretty excited to see this on all fours again. I've been coming in for a half hour to an hour whatever I get after school to weld for a little bit and then I head home. I've been trying to get the chassis welded up and all of the hundred plus holes filled. I've been tigging them shut with a copper backer and big filler rod. The big holes I make a plug and fill it. I just burn them close with a flap disk and then finish flush with a roloc and then I'll D/A them.
    I test fit the front and put some pressure on the spring so that I could get an idea of where the bone mounts might end up.

    IMG_7368.JPG

    The frame sure stiffened up with the X-member installed.

    The next big step is the rear end.

    I just bought a beautiful pair of Buick drums for the rear. I'm going to re-drill the rear bolt pattern on the olds rear to small bolt ford to match my mags... along with re-drilling the drums to the same pattern. I'm going to adapt Lincoln zephyr backing plates to the olds rear and make brackets to hang the 36 bones on it.

    This is an old pic from my album but you get the idea of how the rear end will look- the bones will mount in the center of the X right at the U-joint

    Can't wait to setup the rear end!

    Rolling Chassis, Rolling Chassis!!

    Converting an OLDS rear to 12" Lincoln brakes.

    I'm using actual rear Lincoln backing plates just used the wilsons for mock up. Made rings out of 12g to locate the ford backing plates on the olds axle then I'll use centering punch to locate axle housing holes and drill.

    Drilling the axles and drums to 4.5" b/c tomorrow!!

    Mags are at the machine shop- should have... Could have... It rolling on all fours by Saturday! (-;

    Why'd you weld up the old holes in the axle flange? Should it be trued now to make sure the face is flat?

    Because I drilled holes for the new bolt pattern where those holes were and a file is good enough.

    @alchemy

    I used a 1/2" copper backer and did not weld them all at once- I'm pretty confident I don't have any warpage that I would warrant a lathe. If I'm wrong I'll report back.

    I didn't weld up the old holes just the socket hole and the balance holes- if I did that much welding I probably would true them up- @alchemy

    are you gonna make a spacer ring for the drum to center on the axle hub? I just would trust the studs centering it. concentricity is out friend!

    it all a looking good, we might be putting Buick drums on the back of Ryan's 3 window but not sure yet

    I could easy enough! Didn't think of that- good idea- I'll cut one on the lathe-

    If you do decide to do it I'll have Bryan drop off some rings for the backing plates- @titus I had a few made up. I'm doing this same thing on my coupe.

    Have a pair of 14" Hollywood wheels if that size would work for you.
    One more thing...I will be vending at the swap if there are still spaces available.

    Getting the rear backing plates ready- still a lot of work to do but here is some progress!

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459874410.304277.jpg

    I used a strip of steel and ran it though the slip roll and then formed it over this form so it matched the outer diameter. I used silicon bronze to fill the deep pitting on the face.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459874526.095723.jpg

    Some backing plate restoration- this one side was laying in the dirt and after it went through the cabinet it was a little rough- I got the front and back Lincoln brakes off the same zephyr.

    Trying to save it- there is still a lot of sanding to do to make these chrome worthy.

    Added the centering rings and welded the old holes shut- I'll clamp this in place and use centering punches to locate the new holes on the olds rear!
