This was very well said! I like to think of us as the ultimate recyclers.
You must have a lot more interesting thrift stores than what I've got around here. Nice score.
Well some Masters of Hotrod are just that...One Man Shows...Glad I'm part of the audience...You have one of those shops with that vintage ambience to boot...Cool...
Have you done the Cigarette pack under the frame yet?...That is Looow.
I don’t think that pic is accurate it sits higher the ass end is on a jack- the alignment jig should be finished tomorrow and I’ll be able to put the rear end back together!
I dunno why my mags look like such a weird color, lighting was weird or something.
Can’t wait to get the rear tires mounted and the body back on after the rear is done being narrowed!!
Looking great Tuck - anxious to see the rear diff mounted with your new slicks and wheels!
Haven’t been able to post any chrome wheel progress or anything because my wife has been on a mission with the AF for the last few weeks- they setup a clinic in Puerto Rico to help hurricane victims with medical exams and treatment.
So glad she’s back-!! We went to the Siren Nationals yesterday and swapped and watched the drags- our fam got to hang out with Bryan Barts (formerly Tokyo) and Sam Nelson and his little girl Lilly.
I do have news:
Ok so the Jig is almost totally finished- I just need to cut the face off the 3d member to lighten it up, and then I’ll paint it.
So two pucks center the precision ground bar in place of the bearings and the end pucks bolt into the end caps keeping them in line with the third member center line.
This way I can true up my rear if it’s moved from welding and can weld my cups back on straight!
The new slicks arrived. Towel city knocked them out of the park. Single groove 1” whitewall- #rulers
I’m really stoked on these-
(-: (-: (-: Maple was too-
Getting some time in the shop on mother’s day of all days- we ended up celebrating it on Sat instead at the in-laws.
That’s all I have- lots of work to do- hopefully have something cool to post tomorrow.
Plenty of Cool for a Saturday Night...The details continue to stack up very nicely...
Far out man
Right on with those Towel City slicks - when you finish up your chrome reverse wheels and mount them in your rubber, will look killer on the roadster!!
Yeah the tires that I took off the mags www slicks and front runners will get mounted on the chrome reverse. (-:
Looking good Tuck
Ooooohhhhh yeah!! LOVE the way those skinny whites look on those wheels
New shoes look awesome!
Thanks dudes I'm stoked-
I cut about 30 pounds out of this jig and Painted the outside in cast gray, the inside with Glyptol. I think it’ll be easier to lug around and to align the bar going in as you don’t want to scratch or gouge it the tolerances are so tight (a thousandth) you can actually get your hand in there and see.
I know this rear pic is blurry but this really shows how the rear 3/4 view has improved with the 4” narrower rear.
I was obsessed with sketching hedder designs yesterday.
The stance is right there- looks like a Hot Rod! I just can’t look at that pic without seeing the hedders rolling off the engine- I need to finish the wheels, get the floor braces fixed- then... maybe Hedder Time [TM]
Here’s some random pics-
Maple making letters and Moon ripping it up in the shop
Took this dark shot yesterday when I walked in the shop at 5 am (-:
Holy shit...your kids look just like you. Killer progress! Be bringing it to the HAMB drags???
VERY COOL PICS TUCK
My kind of daddy daycare! What's the story on the pre unit?
Dead nuts spot on with the rear width Tuck - GREAT JOB!!! Any mods needed for the rear wheel wells other than notching them for the differential tubes?
Also noticed the KILLER chopper - brake lights looked like they're frenched in for... '59 Caddy??
Dark shot saved to my phone. Awesome.

@Moriarity started to clone the bike (he literally did all the hard work) on the back of Ed Roths Megacycle. I bought it from him mid stream and I'm going to finish it. It's so petite it's like a bicycle. I plan to bring it to the Hamb Drags this year. @Rocky I plan on going to the drags- not sure about bring the roadster but maybe?
I'm gonna notch them and fill them so there will be NO recess, just smooth, and the bike has mini 59 caddy tail lights yes! Thanks man!
Did a few heat shrinks on the tubes... and no matter how many times I heat shrink something it always amazes me that you can control and move metal in this fashion.
The thermal expansion always freaks me out... heat increasing the vibrations of atoms... the metal expands, tube goes the wrong way... way out of alignment... you quench it and slowly the tube contracts pulling the atoms tighter and back into alignment.
It’s still magic.
The one thing they don’t teach you in school... or that nobody really talks about is that everything we hear, see and touch are all vibrations. Light waves are vibrations, sound waves, touch... all vibrations.
So sending out some positive vibes today- finish that coffee and have a rad day-
This axles ready for some tig action-
So I finished bolting the caps up and started to finish weld the ends on today. What's cool is you can burn in/fill a spot... and the bar tightens up... but if you counter the weld on the opposite side of that weld it'll spin again and so on. Taking my time and welding it slowly so I keep it all aligned- CANT WAIT TO GET IT BACK TOGETHER!!
The third member that's in it has 2.56 gears- I have 3.50's to put in it but man those are some highway gears... does anyone have experience with olds rears? Do I need to change anything to run the thicker gears in this diff?
I have a set of Scheifer 4.88 gears too for an olds... but thats a little crazy.
The 2.56's worked in a big Oldsmobile w/o overdrive.
In a lighter hot rod w/o overdrive would be great on the freeway.....but not so much at the strip!
