My 1950 mercury has had a RHD conversion done on it many years ago before I bought it. Most of the gauges didn't work and after getting professional advice, I have decided to try something different with the centre section. This is made out of Stainless Steel. I still have to polish it which I will do after I have ensured correct fitment, just thought I would share with all you guys. I will post more pics as I go. Haters: I understand most like to keep original gear but as I am unable to for this, I have decided to try something different.
You shouldn't have to wory about what folks think about originality on this forum but if it was billet, you might have a few nay sayers. RHD Mercs are a genuine rarity. You'll have to do whatever works best for you with a custom built application. It's usually easier to fab up custom stuff than it is to restore old ratty stuff anyway. Fordbarn or EarlyV8 forums might think differently though.
Took me awhile but " Australia" "RHD"= Right Hand Drive. Never said I was the brightest candle in the bunch.
Sorry, I just presumed everyone would know what RHD was. I'm not sure where my LH drive to RH drive conversion was done but they had to cut the dash panel into about 9 pieces then reeled back into place. I'm pretty sure it was done in the 80's sometime and needs a little work. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Thank you. Not sure if I should run a black pinstripe to break up the polished stainless or maybe black around the gauges? Cheers Carl
Nice job dude! I'm having a hell of a time getting my head wrapped around the RHD set-up being a yankee but that looks great. Can you see the gauges easily when you're sitting behind the wheel?
Thanks, I hope so I'm still looking for a split bench front seat. I'm pretty sure I will be able to see, I can when I'm sitting on a crate lol
Looks good. As far as the polishing/brilliance of it goes, it's something that fits the '50s era cars..which is one of the attractions to them.
Cheers, yeah I agree with you, I love the shiny stuff, but the dash panel may need to be broken up a little with a pinstripe. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
