Saw a nice '55 chevy sunday, new to me. Nice build, plain but a stand out. Then I saw the steering rack mounted to a frame cross member above the tube axle. I think it was trailered in. I quietly walked away.

Crazy thing is when I was a teen in the early 80’s there were neighborhood guys running low 13’s and trailering their cars to the track and if you were running in the 12’s you were hauling booty...11’s is fast..yep not turbo, tube chassis, air shifted, computer controlled fast...but raw..gettin it..fast
Very true! I hadn’t given it any thought in a long time but you are right. I remember seeing 12 sec cars trailered to the track on a regular basis. I went to the strip last night....1 car went 12.07...1 car...there was a “street” car.. the guy drops his kid at school, picks up pizza...running in the 4’s in the 1/8 mile at 157 mph.. this thing Lifted and carried the wheels for the first 60 feet on 1 pass...technology in drag racing has done some wild stuff
I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming good friends with one of the gentlemen that raced at that race.
Must have been wild... I heard rumors of this racing happening in the 80’s in Chicago..only saw these pics or story’s in Garage Magazine years ago and online..
