Thinking about the 56 Olds I had this summer reminded me of what was found in the glovebox.Sometimes when tearing into something, certain hidden or forgotten items are unearthed. In my case it was this little packet of protection in the glovebox. What "treasures" have you guys found.??
Theres another thread like this but that I didnt find.

  3. LOL I have found a lot of things in old cars, but never new condoms, used yes new no.

I wonder of you had to east your spinach before you used those, kind of like old school Viagra.

  5. I've heard tales of large sums of cash being found in cars,I've only found petrified french fries, loose change and a old plastic comb with broken teeth. HRP

  6. LOL I have a navy blue elbow length glove (silk no less) that I took out from under the back seat in an old stude. I found an once of brown sugar under the back seat of an Eldo that I bought from a pimp once.

I have found lots of stale ciggs and I did find a small pile of 22 shells while cutting the floor out of an old farm truck. Note to self shop vac first then torch.

As a rule the stuff I find can be considered interesting but not nearly as cool as a box of rubbers. One should bear in mind, many a child has been born because the condom had past its shelf life.

There is another thread about the same subject, it's very funny and needs a bump.
But that is a cool item to find.

But go check that our it's funny too, so don't drink and read it at the same time.

I found a reciept for shop work in an old Buick. It is a 1934 Buick, the guy was moving from Colorado to Virginia in the mid fifties, he took the car to the Buick dealer that set the points gap replaced 1 spark plug and changed the oil, total cost was under $2.00 and then he drove the Buick from Colorado to Virginia. I found the receipt behind the back seat and gave it to the new owner that purchased the car from the original owner. The car is in unrestored original condition and you could drive it back to Colorado.

I find weed, pot, mary jane, ganja. Either dried up empty baggies, partial joints, 1 hitters. Almost every car I've stripped had some sort of drugs remnants or paraphernalia. Granted I haven't done a lot of HAMB era cars, mostly 60's and up vehicles.

Think twice before driving that old used car around.

  10. Never found condoms, but an old Olds I bought had a glove compartment and console full of loose tampons. Luckily, none were used. Some one must have had a problem.

  11. I'm surprised nobody has told you yet, so I guess I'll be the first....I wouldn't recommend using those condoms and have any faith they will work as designed anymore, as I'm sure the best before date has passed.

I've told this one before on here but worth telling again. A guy came into the shop and asked me about some copper tanks he found inside the rear quarter panels of his Dads' Model A Tudor that he was restoring. He found a tank on each side filling the space under the window, a hose joined the two and there were drains on each tank. But there was no inlet, you couldn't fill either tank. I was as clueless as you are.
About a year later into the restoration he came back and told me that in the Plains, Virginia area there were lots of moonshiners and during prohibition a 'dealer installed option' were these copper tanks and they'd run hooch into Washington D.C. speakeasies for some extra cash. When his Dad bought this one prohibition was just repealed and they just covered the tanks over and never added the inlet fitting for them.
When he finished the car he left the tanks in it.

My first job as a kid was going through the old cars Dad dragged into the wrecking yard to see if there was anything of value. If there were no keys, I would also have to take out the back seat and crawl through to open the trunk. I found lots of stuff over the years, including a revolver, skin mags, .22 shells, extra keys, hooch bottles, tools, jewelry, etc. The best thing about the job was that I got to keep all the loose change and soda bottles (returned for the deposit.) Everything else went to Dad.

Some sort of karma I guess.

  18. I once found a coke can in the rear quarter panel of a 62 nova convertible- This was in /behind the rear armrest where the springs are located. Interior panel had never been removed, so it had to be there from day one. Musta been a pissed off lineman- like a Monday morning, or a Friday afternoon.
Lost it in a move some time ago, which sucks....
And through the years, the standard stuff= drugs/jimmy's/delinquent bills/ammo/knives/tools......
Waiting to find a finger/toe or something fun like that....... But, this was/is with older stuff.....
I can only imagine what lurks in newer stuff..........

I gave this '41 Suburban to the lady in the picture. It was her uncle's truck. Her cousin drove through high school. Her brother bought it from the uncle in 1959 and drove it daily it daily until 1982.He parked it when the insurance company would no longer sell him full coverage. It was packed full of "treasure" when I got it IMG_1233.JPG .The best item was the Motors truck repair manual from 1941,which I kept.

Bought a low mileage 51 Ford Business Coupe some years back out of an old dealer showroom. Cleaning out the trunk I found two handbills for a ball game between the Philadelphia Philly's and the Philadelphia Athletics. They weren't in perfect shape but I saved them. They're around here somewhere.

100_1352.JPG Just thinking about it I bought a 63 BelAir out in Az when I lived there with 27,000 on the clock. It was originally bought in Montana by the owners Gram and Gramps. Under the trunk mat I found 1776-1976 centennial license plates. I thought that was way cool..

Dirty diapers and old shoes in a 55 Chevy 1/2 ton.

About thirty 22 rounds and about ten shotgun shells in a 59 GMC. The gun rack was gone, though.

The GMC came from Texas, while the Chevy came from Illinois.

The title to a Free because it didn't have a title donor car mixed in with the with the trash in the glove box. 2 20 ft log chains in the trunk of a car I bought for 50.00 50 years ago that I still use all the time. I've found a bunch of tools that were some times worth more than I paid for the car back when you could buy a car foe well under 100 for a project or donor.

After the military about 45 years ago I worked for a local Ford dealer. I also have found some cans and bottles from the factory. The worst was a Maverick that had been in several times for a rattle. Found in the passenger side rear panel was a 3/4 nut hanging on a wire with a note that said "Well you found it F/x#&R" Guess it gets boring on the line.

Bought a 57 Ford Custom 300 for 15.00(that was 1968) off a electrition guy that moved up to a pickup. The city was on him for parking it on the street with no tags. The thing sat real low and the 223 would hardly pull it down the road. Got it home and found it had a new battery, good snow tires and the trunk and back floors were clear full of heavy gauge copper wire, burned it off and sold the copper, used the batery and snow tires and sold the Ford for $50.00. I was in high school at the time so the profits were spent on girls and beer, I waisted the rest.

Well at least there isn't any stains on the back seat. You gotta admire a guy that takes care of his upholstery. JC

  29. I never found condoms in a car I bought, but I did sell a Fiat 124 Spyder to a real nice young newly married couple, and several days later I remembered I had left a box of them under the front seat. I got thinking about what trouble he'd be in if she found them, and maybe me if it got to the point thay called my house about them, so I figured I'd better do the safe thing (pun intended) and call him. He was out of town for a few days, so I told her. Told her I didn't want her husband to get in trouble because of something I left under the front seat, then told her what it was. She laughed her ass off.
I did find a Davy Crockett pocket knife/tiny hatchett in my '57. still have it somewhere.

The only interesting thing I've come across is, at the shop under the carpet of a customers '54 corvette, there was an envelope with a couple thousand Canadian dollars in it.
