What is a 4L60E GM transmission is it a good one or do i need to stay with a 350 turbo. I bought a 350/290 hp crate motor is this a good choice for this motor build is a 30 sedan. Thanks
I believe a mod "may" be killing your thread....I know there was a few replies a minute ago. Only the Shadow knows!
As far as I know the 4L60 is a computer programed trans. If your not running a TPI or computer there is no need to run a 4L60. 350 TH done up are just fine. Pat
I would personally stick with a 700 R4 or a 200 R. I think that you need the cars computer that the transmission came out of for the 4L60E to work properly. Jay
The trans only needs the throttle boby sensor connected. Easy to adapt on any carb. I swapped an OT from TBI to carb and just had to build a support for the TPS
I posted what I thought was a helpful response. Along with a number of others it is gone. Apparently electronically controlled transmissions are off limits, the forum is misbehaving, or someone just needed to delete something.
As stated the tranny you are talking about is an electronic over drive item. Where as the T350 is does not have an over drive gear. So if you are not running electronics and want an over drive tranny the T700R4 is probably your best bet and it will be cheaper and easier to install as you want need to worry about getting the electronics setup by some guy who will probably charge too much for very little.
If he already has the trans, the adaptation is really easy and doesn t cost anything but a few wires and a bracket to fix the sensor. Here s what I did, no rocket science.
If you want an Overdrive at your power level I would go with a 200-4R. It is smaller than the 700, in fact a petty much direct replacement for the TH350. non computer controlled and can be built to handle up to 1,000 HP. But a well built standard version will easily handle your 290Hp 350
