Check this out - My Buddy Russ's Dad (Russ is a lurker) had this video from his car in the early 60's. Check out the 4 - 2 intake and the fenderless chevy. This was taken in Cumming, GA at the intersection of hwy 20 and Buford HWY in Forsyth County. Pretty Kick ass. Russ is pretty much a spittin image of his Pa shown working on the carbs after all the donuts.... hell yeah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHvbdGoFQtI
God, I had forgoten the stupid ass things we did when we were kids. That was pretty cool, made me dizzy.
Wish I had a dollar for every donut I spun while growing up in bumfuck So. Dak. and waiting out the endless winters.
Most of the footage of the 1952 Chevrolet minus front clip was shot at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Ga. hwy 20 just south of Cumming Ga. The drag strip footage looks like the old Cumming Dragway that was open from 1963 through 1974.
I like the part when the fairlane was running from the giant finger slippin up on the left .Got a few of those myself.
Hahaha.... That was frickin cool! That shot with the 4 guys in the Chevy doing donuts cracks me up, especially with one of the guys sticking half way out the back window! Looks like they were havin' fun. Thanks for the video. Malcolm
That's exactly right. Russ still lives right there. I need to get Russ on here to give some better detail. There was also a lot of footage of parades and one of the Apollos at Cape Canaveral on the video. Also a lot of a stock car race. I sure wish it had sound. Glad you guys are enjoying it.
At that time the intersection was known simply as "The Buford Crossing". On any given Friday and/or Saturday night something was going on. A lot of drag racing that went on less than a mile from there on Ga. 20. The participants usually started at what is now the Ga. 400 intersection.
