    1) '40 Ford, any model
    2) Model A phonebooth pickup, WITH fenders
    3) '34 Ford, any model
    4) '56 Chevy, any model, pickups included
    5) '59 Chevy Impala/ElCamino

'56, and '59 could probably apply to any car designed in those two years, they were just great years for automotive design in my opinion. The two I picked just happen to be my favorites from those years.

Honorable mention would be Cadillac from '59 to '64.

Ryan didn't really specify looks, mechanical, or just the best design to fit your personal wants or needs at this time, so your wish list should fit the bill nicely.

1934 Packard-all the custom Dietrich bodies

    1957 Cadillac Eldorado

1953-54 Studebaker Lowey hardtops (even the post cars ain't bad)

    1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302

1969 (?) Monteverdi HS400-a custom Frua bodied berlinetta with a 440 tri-power motor. (ya may wanna google that one...too kool)

Even though these are some favorites the epitome of timeless design, to me at least, is the Ford GT40 MKIII.

I chose based on OEM, as produced, not as coulda-woulda-shoulda-been, customized or modified. Nothing new here, and I could not leave any of these off, so don't count them.:D

    In model year order:

    48 Cadillac
    53 Studebaker hardtop
    56 Chrysler 300
    57 Chrysler 300
    57 Corvette
    61 Jaguar XKE ...;)
    62 Cadillac hardtops
    65 Riviera
    65 Mustang fastback
    66 Riviera
    66 Corvette fastback

    3) 1939 Ford deluxe coupe or convertible
    4) 1949 Ford business coupe

My Top 5, Now I wouldn't normally have picked this list If I hadn't have been exposed to these influencial designs through the course of my 42 yrs of being a Autoholic.
If I was a kid of 18yrs old again my list would be much later in automotive yrs. ie;Muscle Cars.Hot Rods.
1.34 Hupmobile 3W W417 Coupe. (the lines on this car are exquisite! & predate Cord/Ford peaked rear fenders by a full 2 model years. Floating running boards & Packardish like grille, all neatly repackaged in a Ford/Murray/Hupp Design)

2.36/37 Cord 810/12 Supercharged Roadster(end all be all from the coffin nosed hood to the hidden headlites and exposed exhaust tubes exiting throught the wire mesh side grilles)

3.Any SJ Duesey with a body by Murphy/Bohman Schwartz in Pasadena (You want to talk style, any one these All American Early 30's designs are True Craftsmanship!)

4.34 Ford,All Models especially the Woody/Coupe & Roadster(Got to throw in Edsel's Love in there too that's why he built a 2 man roadster version for himself).

5.Fords Vega prototype Powered by a 48 Flathead & Looked like a cross between a Austin Healy and a Ferrari Barchetta (which gave life to the AC Bristol Roadster which begat the AC Shelby American Cobra 260,289 & 427's).
Note! This car had nothing to do with a the late 60's designed,70's Produced GM product that contimues to give up their steering boxes to keep Ford styled Hot Rods pointed in the right direction.

1940 Lincoln Continental Mkl(convertible and coupe)

    1948 Cadillac sedanette

    1956 Lincoln Continental Mkll

    !957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

BTW the Ford GT-40 was not an American design;it was a revision of the Eric Broadley designed Lola GT which was a much better looking design and one of my all time favorites.
