Went on a little Road Trip with some friends (Mark Kirby,Jon Hall Jr., Paul Redmond)to look at a new Shoebox project....Mark said he would introduce me to a couple of friends of his that build Hot Rods...Thought the Hamb Members would like to see pics....First Stop Hal's Garage in fayette ohio....Pulled up to the garage and it looked like a gas stationright out of the 40's.. Walked in and I thought I was in the 40's Saw about 8 pair of these sitting around..
Now It was off to see the goods...as soon as we pulled up to the Farm...This was out front.... Opened the door and there she was my next shoe project.... She went home with me..... Next it was off to Goller's Hot Rod's..in Defiance....soon as i walked in there was one of Kirby's engines sitting there ready to go in the next car..... Looked up and saw this... A very nice shop with lots of Kool stuff..... All Mark Kirby's good Flathead Blocks...he had 4 pallets of them at Phil's 32 Sedan.... Just a great day.......Hal and Phil were both very nice......So if and Hamb members are ever in Defiance or fayette Ohio stop by both places............
Lucky, lucky you! Thanks for the pictures. Good luck with the car. Now I have to wipe the drool off of my keyboard.
Great pictures, like stepping back in time. I remember going through Marks shop in Dundee, Mich before he had to close up. He built a great engine for me back then.
I am with "ustabe: the awning on the first shop are way cool. I will steal that idea with a smile on my face.lol Gary
I probably live within an hour of both places, amazing whats right under your nose and you dont even know it.
Wow thats like the nicest unfinished shoebox ever. Except paint and doorhandles and minor things, I wouldnt change much at all! Nice mild chop, rounded top, already frenched with a tasteful hood corner rounding and, be still my heart, is that a STEEL Merc shell molded in there? It looks like one of the Canadian ones. That car can be a beauty in no time!
Cool places, thanks for sharing. It's a small world, I've been friends with Paul Rebman for over 15 years. He's got a kick ass car collection himself. Sorry to have missed you at Autorama last weekend. There is a group of us getting together for breakfast on Saturday at 10am in your neck of the woods, the Exit Resturant located the Northeast corner of the Birch Run exit off I-75. Bring that dreamboat Jr with you too. Congrats on the new shoebox too!
Wow! Not many walls around my place that would hold 4 sets of cast iron flatty heads/manifolds without buckling!! That place is awesome!
Shoot, you must have gone past my house to get there! I posted pictures of my '52 in front of Hal's last year. I love those awnings. Does he still have the F1 tow truck in orange and blue? Looks just like that scale model one that is in most of the gas stations! I'm about 20-30 minutes from Fayette. Nice stuff. I wondered where the shop went after he closed up in Dumdee. Another 20 minute drive the other way for me. Breakfast at the Exit Saturday, whoopee!
Great pictures! thanks for sharing. Never seen that place before... yes i do believe you walked through a stargate!
Get back in your own state! Do NOT take stuff out of Ohio! Just kidding ya! Congrats on the shoebox, looks nice and solid. Thanks for posting those pics. I LOVE the awnings and the flathead block storage is a great idea.
I'm pulling up an old thread because I saw an episode of Power Block this morning and they mentioned this shop called Hal's. My Google search for more traditional knowledge and info lead me to.... a HAMB thread. How convenient! The pics and review above reveal another small shop doing big things. This thread also highlights Goller's Hot Rod's. I love this stuff. P.S. Now, I've got Steve McQueen in "Bullitt", in the background. Gonna go play with my Bucket for a few hours. Cheers!
Thanks for the tour. I know Mark had some health problems in the past. Is he still able to build any flatheads? That's one of his engines in my avatar.
